What should I consider when installing IKEA PAX doors? (Sliding doors & hinges explained)

Find out what you need to consider when installing PAX doors, including ceiling height, hinge positioning and special considerations for 201 cm frames.

If you want to add doors to your PAX wardrobe, pay particular attention to the ceiling height and hinge positions.

Required ceiling height for sliding doors

The rails are mounted on top of the wardrobe.
The following minimum ceiling heights are required:
  • For a 236 cm frame: at least 240 cm ceiling height
  • For a 201 cm frame: at least 205 cm ceiling height

Hinged doors

When installing hinged doors:
  • first attach the hinges to the door
  • then attach the door to the wardrobe frame
If your PAX wardrobe also includes drawers, make sure they are only installed in positions where there are no hinges.

Special consideration for the 201 cm frame

On a 201 cm high PAX frame, the hinges are not positioned symmetrically.
  • The hinge on the right-hand door sits slightly higher than the one on the left.
  • The left-hand door is a mirrored version of the right-hand door.
  • As a result, the middle hinge sits slightly above the centre on one side and slightly below it on the other.
