What is IKEA’s position on Russia?

IKEA has discontinued its retail operations in Russia as a result of the war in Ukraine. IKEA stores in Russia are closed and IKEA currently does not operate any retail business there.

In March 2022, Inter IKEA Group and Ingka Group paused their activities in Russia and Belarus due to the war in Ukraine and its impact on people, businesses and global supply chains.

1. Does IKEA still operate stores in Russia?

No. IKEA’s retail operations in Russia were closed in mid-2022. Russia is currently not among the countries where Ingka Group operates IKEA retail.

2. Why did IKEA stop its activities?

The decision was made in connection with the war in Ukraine and its significant impact on people, as well as on international supply chains and business conditions.
As part of the further reduction of activities, among other things:
  • IKEA retail operations in Russia were discontinued
  • imports and exports of IKEA products to and from Russia and Belarus were stopped
  • the purchasing and logistics offices in Moscow and Minsk were permanently closed
As communicated on 15 June, Ingka Group also began the process of scaling down its business activities in Russia, including reducing the number of employees.
People remained at the centre of our actions. Affected co-workers signed mutual agreements and were offered compensation packages that significantly exceeded the requirements of Russian labour legislation.
