Hanging something on the walls is an easy way to make the home cosier and more personal. With COLORADOGRAN picture set, you can lift any room with playful art. The secret behind the low price? Thinking outside the box and finding new ways to use what is already available.
“It all began when we looked into whether paper lids for boxes perhaps could be used as wall decoration,” says Product Developer Louise Edwards. “To find a design that can attract art lovers of all ages, we got help from a Swedish design duo who usually works with textile print.”
Turning paper lids into art
The entire product, even the hook in the back, is made of paper. “Paper doesn’t necessarily make things cheaper, but since we already had the production in place and didn’t have to invest in expensive factory tools, we managed to keep the price down,” states Louise. To bring out the patterns, the design duo made collages of paper cut-outs in different sizes and shapes – the same approach as when they create their textile prints. “It’s a bold, colourful and playful design that works both for young and old art lovers.”

The motifs are nature-inspired, featuring winding plants and animals like hedgehogs, dragonflies and wolves – a way to bring some of nature’s mystery and beauty into your home. “To me, a home without decoration can feel like a blank canvas – a bit empty but full of opportunities. When you add colour and shape, things start to happen. Paperboard is a thick and durable material that often comprises of several layers of paper and has many different uses. At IKEA we use paperboard in everything from packaging and sturdy storage boxes to games and other children's products. We strive for using recycled paper in our paperboard and the production is completely free from harmful substances.
