Japandi interior

Japandi is an interior design style that combines the best of Japanese and Scandinavian design. It is the perfect blend of minimalist and functional Scandinavian interior design and beautifully harmonious Japanese style. At the same time, the atmospheric and cozy Japandi interior design has gained great popularity in Nordic homes. Read how to choose furniture and interior accessories that suit the Japandi style in colors that match the style.

Japandi-style furniture

Perhaps the most important part of Japandi is connecting with nature. Nature plays a big role in both Japanese and Scandinavian culture, and this is reflected in the interior design through the use of natural materials and colors that suit the theme. Light wood and bamboo are widely represented in Japandi-style furniture, as they add warmth and texture to the space and promote a natural aesthetic.

Japandi furniture is simple, timeless and minimalist. Practicality is also at the heart of Japandi interior design. Scandinavian, clean-lined furniture is a great choice for a Japandi-inspired home – luckily, there are many pieces of furniture in the IKEA range that fit the style perfectly. For example, finish your space with a rug made from natural materials in a neutral tone.

Japanese-style interior design accessories

In Japanese interior design, colors play an essential role in creating a sense of harmony and peace in your home. Choose neutral colors such as white, gray and beige as your base colors, and then add soft earthy tones such as green or brown. Black in small areas can bring much-needed contrast to your interior, but bright and strong colors break the Japanese aesthetic – the goal is to create a space that is calming.

A home decorated in the Japanese style is, in all its simplicity, an excellent base for beautiful ceramics, fabric wall decorations or green plants such as bonsai trees. In interior items and textiles, even earthy, dark tones are allowed to shine. In lighting, rice paper, bamboo, light wood and simple glass are great materials to complete the interior.
