Home tour: an organised kitchen
Love the idea of a clutter-free, modern kitchen that doesn’t feel too minimalist? Julia planned a contemporary layout for her cooking and dining space, keeping functionality in mind and using wood and traditional details to add warmth. Here’s how:

Mix & match closed storage
For a streamlined look, use closed cabinets and units to keep tableware and appliances out of sight and worksurfaces clear. Then configure their layout and style to suit you. Julia mixed white door fronts with wooden ones to add warmth and soften the look. “The idea of an all-white kitchen feels too sterile to me,” she says. “Maybe because I’m a nurse!”
Keep it ordered on the inside
Maximise functionality by using drawer inserts and interior organisation. That way, you spend less time hunting around for tools and ingredients and more time enjoying your kitchen. “By keeping most things inside drawers and cupboards, there’s less out on the counters,” says Julia. “The space feels calmer and looks more contemporary.”
Extend with stand-alone storage
Instead of trying to store everything in the kitchen, why not keep dinnerware close to the table so it’s quick and easy to set at mealtimes? “We chose a white sideboard that matches our kitchen so it all feels part of the same space,” says Julia. “As well as storing our plates, it makes a great display surface for artwork and plants.”
