Equality, diversity and inclusion turns our workplace into a home
At IKEA, you’re welcome no matter where you come from, what you believe, what you look like and who you like to snuggle up in front of the TV with. We don’t even care how you organise your kitchen cupboards. We’re interested in you simply because you’re you.

We support LGBT+ inclusion
We believe that our LGBT+ employees (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other sexual orientations and gender identities) should have the right to be themselves. Our goal is to create an inclusive work environment where everyone has equal opportunities, and to contribute to positive change in all parts of our business and society.
How we ensure LGBT+ inclusion
- We have a global LGBT+ inclusion plan to ensure that our entire company creates a workplace and environment that welcomes people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
- We have helped develop and support the UN’s ethical standards for addressing discrimination against LGBT+ people in the workplace and society.
- We are members of the Workplace Pride Foundation and Stonewall, two organizations that work to promote LGBT+ inclusion in the workplace.
- We are also a member of Open For Business, a business association that works to promote LGBT+ inclusion and counter the growing resistance to such inclusion in many parts of the world.
- In 2021, we began using the Progress Flag, a version of the rainbow flag that symbolizes the need to include the many identities within the LGBT+ community.
- Since 2019, we have sold over 3.5 million rainbow bags in 26 countries, with a portion of the profits going to LGBT+ organizations.
More equality in the world
We believe that everyone has the right to be treated fairly and given the same opportunities, regardless of gender. By 2022, we have committed to achieving true gender equality throughout IKEA – worldwide. This means ensuring equal opportunities for both women and men, and reaching 50/50 gender balance in all countries, levels and positions, including boards and committees.
We believe that better gender balance is good for everyone. With the commitment to 50/50, we focus on getting more women in male-dominated roles, and more men in female-dominated roles.
Regardless of role or position, everyone at IKEA should be able to expect equal pay for equal work. We are members of the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC) and have pledged to ensure equal pay for equal work throughout our organization.
Achieving more equality in the world will lead to a more inclusive culture, where both women and men are valued for their unique contributions and can influence the culture of the organization. Because when all people have the same opportunities to grow, it is positive for everyone.

Diversity
At IKEA, we see diversity and inclusion as the only right thing to do. This is deeply rooted in our values and the way we work. People who shop at IKEA have different cultures, skin colors, languages and nationalities. By having backgrounds as varied as our customers, we are able to understand what they need and what is happening in society. In this way, we believe that our diversity and our differences help make IKEA a better place for those who shop with us.
We experience that every employee has unique qualities that they bring to IKEA. It is when teams of people who know different things and think differently work together that we achieve new and exciting things. Diversity drives IKEA forward. That is why we consciously work to ensure that our working environment is diverse and inclusive. Everyone should be able to be themselves here.
We believe that all people have something valuable to contribute.

Inclusion
For many, IKEA is synonymous with home. A familiar and safe place that you look forward to coming to, whether it’s as a workplace or to shop. We want everyone to feel at home at IKEA. Our employees should feel welcome, respected, supported and valued. At IKEA, everyone should have the same opportunities. To avoid conscious or unconscious prejudices influencing how we behave or color the decisions we make, we actively work to promote diversity and inclusion in everything we do.
Inclusion is everyone’s responsibility.

Your next job? Being yourself.
When you come and work for us, we want you to bring your whole self: the bits you’re proud of, the messy and complicated bits, and the bits that haven’t yet had a chance to shine. To us your uniqueness is an asset. At IKEA everyone has a home.
