7 tips – how to set up your makeup corner

1. How do you choose the right dressing table?

To choose the right furniture for your makeup corner, think through a few key factors:

  • Space – how much room do you have? Even a small surface can become a functional setup.
  • Needs – do you mostly need work surface or storage on your dressing table? Or both?
  • Budget – what can it cost?
  • Mirror – do you want to (or can you) mount it on the wall, or does it need to be built into the table?
  • Style – which room will the dressing table go in, and what style fits best there?

Once you've thought these through, take a closer look at our wide range. You can go for a classic dressing table, but a desk or a simple wall shelf can work just as well – it's about finding what works for you.

2. Choose the right lighting for your makeup corner for the best results

The light you do your makeup in has a big impact on how the makeup will actually look. Since makeup reads differently depending on the lighting conditions, it's important to choose the right lighting.

  • Natural light
The very best light for doing your makeup is natural daylight. If possible – place your dressing table in front of or near a window. To avoid glare in direct sunlight, you can draw a thin curtain or blind that softens the light.
  • Choose the right light source
When it comes to lamps for your dressing table, go for light sources with cool white light at around 4,000 K. That's the light closest to natural daylight, giving you the best conditions.
  • Lamp placement
To minimise shadows on your face, the light should come from several directions, ideally straight on. That's why wall lamps on both sides of the mirror, or a mirror with built-in lighting around or along the sides, are a good choice. LED strips or ring lights are also good alternatives.

3. Choose a proper mirror above your dressing table

With a mirror that's too small, it can be hard to get a full picture of how your finished makeup looks from different angles and distances. So invest in a proper mirror that matches your dressing table and gives you the overview you need.

If you can't, or don't want to, drill into the wall, there are other smart options. We have table mirrors that sit on the tabletop, and dressing tables with the mirror already built in.

Feel free to add a small magnifying mirror for easily fixing those final details.

4. Organise your dressing table with smart storage

Keep your makeup, skincare, hair accessories and jewellery in order. With an organised dressing table, your morning routine gets both quicker and easier. When everything has its place and you don't have to search, your time in front of the mirror becomes more relaxing too.

By using smaller boxes, containers and trays, you can gather and group similar products in one and the same place. That makes it easier to find what you need, and your dressing table looks tidy. Go for makeup storage in transparent materials for a better overview.

We have dedicated makeup storage as well as other smart products that were actually designed for something else but work perfectly for makeup and jewellery. How about a turntable made for the fridge, a toothbrush cup that's perfect for makeup brushes, or a picture ledge for all your nail polishes?

5. For those who need more storage

Some dressing tables have built-in storage in the form of drawers or cabinets, but not all. In that case, you can add a separate storage solution to make room for your beauty products. A drawer unit is a practical option. There you can organise your beauty products by category. That not only makes it easier to find what you need, but also helps keep your makeup corner dust-free and visually calm.

Want your products even more accessible? Place a trolley next to your dressing table. With several shelf levels, you get open, flexible storage where you can quickly see what you have – perfect for everything from hair products to nail polish.

6. No room? Create a mobile makeup station

If you don't have space for a permanent makeup station, you can create a mobile one. A trolley and a table mirror will take you far. Organise your beauty products in the trolley and roll it wherever you like, ideally to a window with good light. Set out the mirror – and you're ready.

When you're done, simply pack away the mirror and roll your little makeup corner out of the way until next time. A perfect solution if you live small or want to be able to move your routine around.
