Product support policy for IKEA smart products
Our smart products are built to last, made from durable materials and rigorously tested in our labs. The longer you use them, the better it is for the environment.
You can keep using your IKEA smart products as long as they last
- You can use smart products for basic functions (e.g., turning a light bulb on and off), with or without a remote control or connection to the DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway.
- You can also use smart products with the DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway connected to the corresponding Home smart app (IKEA Home smart for DIRIGERA hub and IKEA Home smart 1 for TRÅDFRI gateway).
When the DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway is connected to the internet, the software of these smart products gets updated with new features. However, there is a practical limit to what the electronics in the products can handle, and we want our products to work as best as possible. That is why we follow these guidelines for digital updates and corrections.
DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway
We offer software support within three years from the purchase date to ensure that the DIRIGERA hub / TRÅDFRI gateway:
- Works with the corresponding Home smart app (IKEA Home smart for DIRIGERA hub and IKEA Home smart 1 for TRÅDFRI gateway)
- Receives security updates
- Receives updates that ensure compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant
Other smart products (including SYMFONISK speakers) from IKEA, apart from the DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway
We offer software support for our smart products within five years from the purchase date, provided they are connected to the DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway, to ensure that the products:
- Work with the corresponding Home smart app (IKEA Home smart for DIRIGERA hub and IKEA Home smart 1 for TRÅDFRI gateway)Receive security updates

What products are labeled as "Works with IKEA Home smart"?
These are smart products from IKEA that you control in a corresponding Home smart app, provided they are connected to the DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway. Find the current selection of smart products from IKEA here.
Will my smart products continue to work after the support period ends?
Yes! After the software support ends, you can continue using your smart products from IKEA with remote controls and/or the DIRIGERA hub and/or the TRÅDFRI gateway as long as they are functioning.
To get the latest updates, you can connect the smart products to the DIRIGERA hub and the Home smart app. IKEA provides support via our customer centers and with information on ikea.no in case you have questions or need help with smart products.
How do the DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway work?
- The DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway are designed to be connected to the internet. They receive software updates directly from IKEA when they are connected to a router with internet access.
- IKEA will continue to support the DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway with necessary security updates and maintain compatibility with our online services and the corresponding Home smart apps (IKEA Home smart for the DIRIGERA hub and IKEA Home smart 1 for the TRÅDFRI gateway) within three years from the purchase date.
- IKEA may choose to continue offering software updates and/or compatibility with online services and/or mobile apps after this period.
How do smart products labeled as "Works with IKEA Home smart" (including SYMFONISK speakers) receive updates?
These smart products will continue to receive software updates directly from IKEA when they are connected to:
- DIRIGERA hub and the Home smart app with internet access, or
- TRÅDFRI gateway and the Home smart 1 app with internet access
The exception is SYMFONISK speakers, which receive updates directly from Sonos via the Sonos app.
