Knives & chopping boards

We prefer to cut fruit, not corners.

One of the secrets behind the strength of VARDAGEN cook’s knife is spelled molybdenum/vanadium. That’s the type of stainless steel we use, and it’s a strong one. But there’s more to the story. The main reason why VARDAGEN is so sharp, and stays sharp for a long time, is how we treat and harden the metal. Exactly how that is done is a bit of a secret – but the end result isn’t. It’s a long-lasting quality knife with a 15-year guarantee and a €00 price tag. Happy cooking!

Which kitchen knife is right for me?

Think of your kitchen knives as trusted sidekicks. The go-to everyday chef’s knife is the multitasker—slicing, dicing, chopping with confidence and ease. A paring knife is your precision partner, perfect for peeling apples or deveining prawns. And if you often cook meat or crusty bread, a serrated knife will glide through with no tearing or fuss. At IKEA, our kitchen knives come in different shapes, sizes and materials, each designed to make your prep smoother and your cuts cleaner. Whether you’re a seasoned home cook or just finding your rhythm, there's a knife that feels just right in your hand—and right for your cooking style.

What should I look for in a chopping board?

A chopping board does more than protect your worktops—it’s the stage where your meals begin. Wooden chopping boards have a natural charm and warm touch. They’re sturdy and kind to your knife blades, making them ideal for fruit, veg and bread. Over time, they even tell the story of the meals you’ve made, with soft wear that adds character. Prefer something a little more low-maintenance? Plastic chopping boards are light, dishwasher-safe and often come in colour-coded sets—great for keeping raw meat and fresh veg safely separate. Having a mix of both types means you’ll always have the right board for the job.

Why does having the right tools matter?

It’s not just about looks (though, yes, they do look great). Having the right kitchen knives and chopping boards makes prep quicker, safer and more enjoyable. A sharp knife means less force and more control. A stable board means no slipping mid-slice. The combination gives you confidence—from your first onion chop to your Sunday roast carving. At IKEA, we’ve brought together a wide range of tools designed to suit different homes, hands and habits. Whether you’re after a starter set or upgrading your old faithfuls, you’ll find options that balance function, comfort and style.

So, roll up your sleeves, grab a board, and get chopping—because a great meal starts with great tools.
