Collaborating for climate action at COP30
With ever-growing urgency to accelerate progress, COP30 marks a vital turning point in global climate action – bringing together global leaders, government representatives, businesses, and citizens. The proximity to the Amazon is also strategic, bringing together climate, nature, and social agendas. Let's take a look at how IKEA will be involved and what steps we are taking to bring about climate action.
At IKEA, we believe that, together with our partners and by leading with facts, science, and tangible actions, we have a responsibility to use our reach and influence to accelerate climate action.
We have consistently participated in COP for many years now, each time to demonstrate our commitment to the global climate agenda and to share learnings from our own business – the successes as well as the challenges. With global emissions still off track and the impacts of climate change intensifying, COP30 provides a platform to call for urgent action and to show that it is possible to deliver on the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Let's take a look at some of the latest projects we are working on, together with others, to find new solutions to scale up climate action, for IKEA and beyond.
“Real climate action happens through determination, collaboration, and innovation. By combining circular design, responsible sourcing, renewable energy, and strong partnerships, we can scale up solutions that are good for people, the planet, and business. At COP30, we want to highlight how business and policy can reinforce each other, and inspire world leaders to make brave, lasting decisions."

Investing in climate action in Brazil
As part of the previously announced Inter IKEA Group investment of €100 million for removing and storing carbon, IKEA is now launching a pioneering project together with BTG Pactual in Brazil to protect, restore, and responsibly manage degraded and low-productive land in one of the world’s most endangered ecosystems.
With forests among the most effective tools for removing CO₂ from the atmosphere, this project will focus on conserving, restoring and reforesting a total portfolio of approximately 4,000 hectares of deforested or low-productive pastureland in the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina within the Atlantic Forest biome. This initiative will enable IKEA to test a scalable model, with the aim of expanding future investments.

“In IKEA, we recognise our responsibility as a major user of wood and strive to lead by example in responsible forest management - extending our efforts beyond the wood we source for our own business. Our goal is to demonstrate that productive forestry, conservation and restoration not only can coexist, but can thrive together."

Exploring the future of responsible coffee
We’re exploring the future of responsible coffee through a regenerative agriculture pilot in Brazil’s Cerrado region, undertaken in partnership with the Rainforest Alliance. This three-year initiative spans 10 certified farms across 1,000 hectares, with the goal of improving soil health, reducing water use, and enhancing biodiversity across our coffee supply chain.
By combining scientific soil and leaf analyses with farmer-led innovation, the project is testing regenerative practices such as cover cropping, biochar application, assisted pollination, and biological pest control – each adapted to local conditions. Supported by Brazilian universities and a local cooperative, the pilot is also tracking key indicators including carbon retention, water efficiency, and soil biology, helping us better understand what drives impact on the ground.
Some participating farms are already demonstrating advanced regenerative models, offering real-world examples of how sustainability and productivity can thrive together. The insights from this work will inform our long-term sourcing strategies and strengthen the resilience of our supply chain, helping to transform food systems to support farmers and communities.

Giving businesses the tools to adapt to climate change
We're proud to support UNICEF’s and BSR's new climate adaptation tool ahead of COP30, which we helped shape alongside other companies and business platforms. The tool is an important step in helping businesses integrate adaptation into their climate strategies while creating co-benefits for children and communities.
As part of our ongoing partnership, IKEA and UNICEF will identify one country to pilot these tools, co-creating an adaptation plan tailored to the local context. Developing the plan will include consultations with youth and communities, to give voice to those often most affected by climate change. Through these collaborative efforts, we will explore how we can together, in our respective spheres of influence, strengthen community resilience and prioritise children’s needs.
“COP30 is very much about connections and collaboration. Many synergies exist between climate, nature, air pollution, and the social agenda. Through panel discussions and meetings with partners, I look forward to sharing IKEA’s journey and learn about examples and new initiatives from other businesses and organisations that we can bring back to our business. At IKEA, we have made strong commitments to do our part in decreasing CO₂ emissions along our value chain. By inspiring others to do the same, we will create much more impact but also create an even playing field that will benefit our business and the global climate agenda."

Committing to climate action now, and for the future
We have ambitious goals to halve emissions across the IKEA value chain by FY30, and achieve net zero emissions by FY50, compared to our baseline year, FY16. Now more than ever, it is vital for us to reinforce our commitment to climate action and demonstrate that we are staying the course.
