Quiet Hour
You love IKEA and enjoy shopping in our store, but sometimes the noise and hustle and bustle are just a bit too much? That’s exactly why we’ve created something new for you: the Quiet Hour.

NEW: Quiet Hour from June 2026 in all stores.
Every Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
What is the Quiet Hour?
The Quiet Hour is a special shopping time with fewer sensory stimuli – especially for people who are sensitive to noise or lots of impressions. This includes, for example, people on the autism spectrum, with ADHD or other needs.
With the Quiet Hour, we want to create a less stimulating and less stressful shopping environment in our stores – for neurodivergent people, families with young children, older people, people with mental health challenges and anyone who might prefer a calmer shopping experience.
We want to reduce visual and acoustic stimuli in order to make shopping possible for people in our society who, due to their impairments, find it difficult to visit shops or move around in public spaces.
In this way, we want to help ensure that everyone can have a pleasant and self-determined shopping experience with us.
What changes in the store during the Quiet Hour?
- No music or loudspeaker announcements. Announcements that are relevant to the safety of our customers or coworkers (emergency announcements) may still occur.
- Fewer noises and a calmer atmosphere.
- Considerate behaviour from coworkers and other customers.
- In the IKEA Restaurant, we pay attention to reducing noise. For example, loud signals from the ovens in the kitchen are turned down.
When and where does the Quiet Hour take place?
In all IKEA stores in Germany. Every Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
