How to furnish a family hallway

Start by separating what items must fit in the hallway. A daily mess has a way to quickly take over, but let’s regain control by sorting things out and making sure that everyone knows where everything goes. With smart organisation and easy storage for everything, every day and every season, the neat order will stay intact.

Big, bulky, muddy – gone!

Helmets and backpacks are lifesavers for sure, but they’re not always a pretty sight, and they tend to end up in piles on the floor. Well, not anymore! The big bottom drawer of KALLSÖ storage bench is made to swallow them whole.

To find perfect places for everything else, sort it all out and make designated spots for everything from shoes and sports gear to bags and accessories.

Where rubber boots go on sunny days

Rain gear, sun hats, seasonal things and other items that aren’t worn every other day, have no reason to linger around on the hallway hooks or floor. It they do, it’s usually because they don’t know where else to go? With a well-organised wardrobe in the hallway, you can hide away all those things but still have them handy the very second you need them.

Don’t let the kids’ modest heights stop them from keeping everything in order

With hooks and shelves at different heights there’s no excuse for anyone, tall or tiny, to not put their clothes and things up where they belong. Designated boxes with different looks or colours are perfect for everything that doesn’t like to hang around on a hook.

Have a seat!

A bench is almost a must-have in a family hallway, as the possibility to have a seat while putting on shoes is as much appreciated by kids as by elderly. As a bonus those benches often provide storage for shoes or boxes underneath as well.

Hop along!

Any rug collects all the little dirt and gravel that didn’t stop on the door mat. And why not combine that need of a rug with the everyday need for some fun? Or help the youngest kids understand in which order they should put their clothes on, by placing the shoes on square 1, the mittens on square 2, the scarf on… You get it! Regardless of use, the STÄPPSPARV hopscotch rug will cheer everyone up, regardless of age.

Make waiting time a fun time

The bigger the family, the longer the waiting time when everybody’s getting ready to go. It’s a good idea to equip the hallway with something the little ones can keep busy with while waiting. A note board and a few pens will do, or why not a FLISAT doll’s house which is also a wall shelf? Some rooms can serve as storage for sunglasses and keys, while others provide a home for the little tenants, the HUSET family.

Fun solutions to dull problems

Too many soaking wet mittens or socks inside the door? Add a PRESSA hanging dryer in the hallway for the rainy season. Dog collars and toys laying around? Add a designated hook for the collar and a box for the toys. Always late? Make sure to have a clock on the wall in the hallway. There’s always an easy, affordable solution for everyday hallway related problems.
