“Even if you’re not a gamer yourself, you probably know someone who is; there’s one in almost every family constellation,” says product developer Ola Kristensson. “Many gaming chairs on the market look like racing chairs, but we wanted to do something different, that breathes IKEA, with everything that entails.”

“With STYRSPEL you get a look and functions we feel are missing in conventional gaming chairs,” he says. The backrest and the extra wide seat are compatible with everyone who appreciate comfort by the screen, and who doesn’t? “We’re using a strong mesh fabric instead of padding. It gives a pleasant cooling effect if you sit for many hours and feels softer compared to other mesh fabrics on the market. We have also tried to make it intuitive to understand how to adjust the chair so you easily can get a comfortable position, no matter how you prefer to sit or what body type you have.”

STYRSPEL has other functions especially developed for gamers, but which others also can appreciate, like the pivoting armrests. “It’s because you want different distances between your elbows depending on if you play on a console, computer or mobile. With STYRSPEL you can fine-tune your posture and sit relaxed, regardless of what device you play on.” It’s a chair with several features that can contribute to higher scores and better gaming experiences. “The idea with STYRSPEL was to design a dedicated chair for gaming – and at the same time take advantage of the extensive home furnishing knowledge that IKEA has. It had to be good-looking yet have all the necessary features and ergonomics needed when a match drags on for hours and hours. The inspiration for the design comes from the wire-frame models often used in 3D computer graphics. I hope that gamers of all ages will love this chair and want to use it for many years."
