IKEA Family Terms and Conditions

Welcome to IKEA Family, where your home furnishing ideas come to life.

1. Legal aspects

When you create an IKEA Family profile and become an IKEA Family member, you enter into an agreement with IKEA, based on which IKEA provides you with your IKEA Family profile and all associated IKEA Family services.

These terms and conditions for IKEA Family govern the agreement between you and IKEA Möbelvertrieb OHG, 2334 Vösendorf, Austria ("IKEA Austria," "we," "us") for the provision and use of your IKEA Family membership and your IKEA Family profile (hereinafter also "profile") and all associated services, offers, and activities (hereinafter collectively referred to as "benefits"). Your profile grants access to the benefits provided by IKEA Austria for IKEA Family members. Your profile does not grant access to services, offers, activities, etc. that may be provided by IKEA outside Austria (as part of its customer programs).

We reserve the right to update and change IKEA Family and all associated services, offers, benefits, and activities, as well as these IKEA Family Terms and Conditions, in accordance with the provisions in Section 6 of these Terms and Conditions.

2. Contact

If you have any feedback, comments, or questions about IKEA Family, IKEA Family membership, your profile, or these IKEA Family Terms and Conditions, please contact our customer service team at www.IKEA.at/Contact.

3. Your IKEA Family profile

Anyone who is at least eighteen (18) years old can create an IKEA Family profile for themselves and thus become an IKEA Family member. Once you have entered all the required information (see below), your profile will be created and immediately activated. You will remain an active IKEA Family member until your profile is deleted by you or by IKEA Austria, or until the IKEA Family program is terminated by IKEA Austria. For more information, see sections 5 and 7 of these Terms and Conditions.

You are responsible for all activities on your profile that are attributable to you. Attributable activities include those carried out when you log in to your profile or when third parties log in, provided that you have enabled this (e.g., by sharing your password).

To obtain an IKEA Family profile and join IKEA Family, you must be at least eighteen (18) years old, reside in Austria, Germany, Italy, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, or Hungary, and have a valid email address that will be linked to your profile. IKEA Family is intended for private use only. Therefore, you are not permitted to create a profile on behalf of a company. We invite companies to join our IKEA Business Network instead. We only allow you to have one active IKEA Family profile at a time. Your profile and IKEA Family card are personal and non-transferable. Your IKEA Family profile and IKEA Family membership are free of charge.

You are responsible for keeping your email and contact details up to date and for keeping your password confidential. You can update your details at any time in your IKEA Family profile.

In connection with the provision of IKEA Family membership, your IKEA Family profile, and all associated benefits, we process personal data about you. You can find all information about this and your rights in our privacy policy at www.ikea.at/Privacy-policy

4. IKEA Family benefits and rewards

As a member of IKEA Family, we support you in realizing your home furnishing ideas. Always remember to log in or scan your IKEA Family card at the checkout to benefit from all the advantages of your IKEA Family profile.

With your IKEA Family profile, we offer you a variety of benefits and rewards from IKEA Family—you can find the details in the member area at www.IKEA.at/Family and in our info emails. To enjoy these benefits and rewards, you must identify yourself as an IKEA Family member. You can do this in the following ways: In our IKEA stores, you can use your IKEA Family card – digital or physical. Online, you can identify yourself by logging into your IKEA Family profile with your email address and password.

Please note that the benefits and rewards offered by IKEA Family may change over time (for changes, see point 6 of these Terms and Conditions). Detailed information about the current benefits, their availability, redemption conditions, and the rewards from IKEA Family can be found at www.IKEA.at/Family and in your IKEA Family profile.

Here are a few things you should know about rewards from IKEA Family

Rewards from IKEA Family

As an IKEA Family member, you can collect points at IKEA Austria, which you can redeem as a reward. To do this, you need an active profile. The points you have collected are displayed in your profile.

A) How do I collect points?

You collect points for purchases and certain promotions at IKEA Austria. When shopping, you collect points from a minimum purchase value of 5 €; only the purchase of IKEA gift cards is excluded from this. You receive one point per 5 €. The relevant purchase value is calculated based on the total amount of the purchase for IKEA products and IKEA services, after deduction of all discounts and vouchers. You also collect points for the following activities:

Activities How often do you receive points for this?
Log in to your IKEA Family profile online or in the IKEA app1x/month
Become an IKEA Family membeOne-time
Upgrade to an IKEA Family profileOne-time
Create and save a new shopping listOnce a week
Create and save a new plan using the IKEA online kitchen plannerOnce a week
Attend an IKEA Family event that requires registrationOnce a week
Attend a planning appointmentOnce a week

This means that if you log in to your IKEA Family profile several times a month, you will only receive points once per month. After one month has passed, you can log in again to collect more points.

Detailed information about the exact number of points that can be collected for purchases and activities can be found in your profile, on our website, and in the IKEA app.

IKEA Austria reserves the right to change the number of points that can be collected for purchases and activities. The purchases and activities for which you can collect points may also be changed. All information about such changes can always be found in your IKEA Family profile. For details on such changes, see point 6 of these Terms and Conditions.

To collect points for online purchases and activities, you must be logged into your IKEA Family profile. For purchases and activities in the IKEA store, you must scan your IKEA Family card. If you do not identify yourself as a member when making a purchase or an activity, this cannot be done later for technical reasons, even if you have a receipt or other proof of purchase or of the activity. If points have not been credited due to a system malfunction, please contact our customer service (www.IKEA.at/Contact).

If you collect points for a purchase but then return goods, e.g. because you are exercising your statutory right of withdrawal, we will deduct the points for the returned goods. Please note that points for returned goods are always deducted from the points balance of the IKEA Family profile used to return the goods. This is also the case if the returned goods were not purchased using this IKEA Family profile. Returning an item can also result in a negative points balance. In this case, you can restore your negative points account to a positive points account through purchases and activities. Please note that IKEA Austria will not make any claims against you in the event of a negative points balance. You can find more information about returning goods on our website at www.IKEA.at/Returns-claims. If you have any questions, please contact our customer service team (www.IKEA.at/Contact).

Points are non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash. They can only be exchanged for various rewards provided by IKEA Family. Points are valid for a period of twenty-four (24) months from the date they are credited to your profile (this usually takes place within forty-eight (48) hours of completing the purchase or activity).

Please note that you will only receive points for purchases that have been completed. A purchase is only considered complete once all products in the respective order have been delivered to you. Points will automatically expire after twenty-four (24) months, but don't worry—if your points are due to expire within the next three (3) months, we will send you a reminder email in good time so that you can redeem them before they expire.
You can always view your points balance, the expiration date of your points, and the available rewards in your IKEA Family profile and in the IKEA app.

B) How can I redeem my points?

All available rewards are automatically displayed in your IKEA Family profile. Once you have collected enough points for the corresponding reward, you can select this reward. The required number of points will then be deducted from your total points and you will receive an email with your individual voucher number at the email address stored in your profile.

You can use the voucher number on the IKEA Austria website, in the IKEA app, in IKEA Austria stores, in the IKEA Austria planning studio, or at customer service, but please note that not every voucher can be used in every sales channel. We provide information about how the various vouchers can be used at www.IKEA.at/Family. The voucher can only be used once and expires if it is not used within thirty (30) days of the date of activation (i.e., the date on which you selected your reward and the voucher number became available to you via your profile and in the IKEA app).

Returns: If you have redeemed the voucher but later return the goods, we cannot refund the voucher (for information on deducting collected points upon return, see point A) above, How do I collect points?).

Cancellation:

  • If you redeem a voucher when ordering goods but then cancel the order before payment, the voucher is not considered used. You can use it within the original period.
  • If you cancel the order after payment but on the same day, the voucher is not considered used. You can use it within the original period.
  • If you cancel an order after payment, but the cancellation is not made on the same day as the payment, the voucher is also not considered used. However, in this case, the redeemed voucher will be regenerated, which is why it will only be available to you the following day. You can access the newly generated voucher via your IKEA Family profile and we will also send it to you by email. You can use it within the original period (please note that a new voucher number has been generated when using it).

Returning the voucher: If you cannot or do not wish to use the voucher number within the thirty (30)-day period, you have the option of returning the voucher. This will prevent the voucher and the points redeemed for it from expiring. If you return the voucher before the deadline, the redeemed points will be refunded to your points account. You can exchange the refunded points for a reward voucher within their original validity period (for the validity period, see point A) above, How do I collect points?). To return a voucher, please contact our customer service team (www.IKEA.at/Contact).

C) What different rewards are there?

You can select your reward from various product categories in your profile. Here are a few examples:

  • Discounted shipping for an order
  • Vouchers for IKEA products
  • Vouchers for the Swedish restaurant and café
  • Vouchers for the Swedish Food Market and Bistro

The available rewards may change over time (for changes, see point 6 of these Terms and Conditions). You can find information about the current selection in your profile.

Submitting ratings and reviews

As an IKEA Family member, you can submit ratings and reviews for IKEA products and IKEA services. Ratings and reviews must be constructive and objective. IKEA Austria accepts no responsibility for ratings and reviews and may remove them if they

  • violate applicable law (e.g., offensive, discriminatory, racist, or violence-glorifying content);
  • contain false statement of facts or defamation;
  • contain advertising, spam, or other commercial content;
  • infringe the rights of third parties (e.g., copyright, personal rights);
  • or are deemed inappropriate for other reasons after due consideration (e.g., unobjective ratings, reviews with an offensive tone, threats).

5. What happens after death?

IKEA Family membership ends automatically upon the death of the IKEA Family member. In this case, the IKEA Family profile will be deleted by IKEA Austria.

6. Changes to these terms and conditions and services

We reserve the right to change

  • IKEA Family,
  • these IKEA Family Terms and Conditions,
  • the services, offers, activities, benefits, and rewards from IKEA Family,
  • the number of points that can be collected for purchases and activities, and
  • the type of purchases and activities for which points can be collected.

You can view the current IKEA Family Terms and Conditions at any time at www.IKEA.at/FamilyTerms&Conditions.

Information on the services, offers, activities, benefits, and rewards currently available can be found at www.IKEA.at/Family.

Information about points (number, collecting points) can be found at www.IKEA.at/Rewards

A) Unilateral changes

We may make changes that are reasonable for you, especially if they are minor and objectively justified, without your consent. We will inform you of these changes on our website, in the IKEA app, and in your IKEA Family profile.

Such changes include:

  • A change in the number of points earned per euro spent;
  • a change in the number of points collected for purchases and activities;
  • a change to the purchases and activities for which points can be collected;
  • a change in the number of points that must be collected to receive a certain reward;
  • discontinuation of rewards from IKEA Family;
  • a change in the services, offers, activities, and benefits of IKEA Family;
  • and a change in the scope of IKEA Family services, offers, activities, and benefits.

We will only make these changes if the change or discontinuation of rewards from IKEA Family is necessary due to changed economic circumstances (e.g., rising fixed costs or raw material prices; availability of products and services; due to a change in demand from our IKEA Family members) or legal circumstances in order to continue to operate IKEA Family economically.

In the event of the discontinuation of rewards from IKEA Family, all points collected will remain valid until their expiry date and can still be exchanged for the available rewards until their expiry. Vouchers can still be redeemed within the specified period.

B) Information about changes and consent

We will inform you of any changes that may have legal or economic disadvantages for you by email at least four (4) weeks before they take effect and explain the changes to you.

You have the option to object to the change. If you notify us within four (4) weeks of receiving the information by emailing www.IKEA.at/Kontakt that you do not agree with the change, then this change will not take effect for you.

If you do not agree with the change, you also have the option of deleting your IKEA Family profile at any time by clicking on the "Delete profile" function in your profile. If you delete your profile within four (4) weeks of receiving the information, this change will not take effect for you. If you need help deleting your profile, you can also contact our customer service (www.IKEA.at/Contact).

If you continue to use your IKEA Family profile four (4) weeks after receiving the information, this will be considered as your consent to the changes. We will inform you of this in our notification about the changes ("change information").

Shortly before the change takes effect, we will remind you again by email about the upcoming change and your options to accept or reject it.

C) Active consent

Changes that would cause you unreasonable disadvantages, such as changes that impose obligations on you that you could not have anticipated when you entered into the contract (e.g., payment obligations) or changes that restrict our services to such an extent that you can no longer derive reasonable benefit from your IKEA Family membership (e.g., the complete or almost complete elimination of all benefits), will only be made with your active consent. This means that we will inform you of such changes at least four (4) weeks in advance by email, and these changes will only take effect for you if you agree to them in writing by email to www.IKEA.at/Contact within this period.

Change of contracting parties

IKEA Austria is entitled to transfer its contractual obligations set out herein, in whole or in part, to Ingka NB AB, a Swedish limited liability company, company number 559487-7051, Älmhultsgatan 2, 215 86 Malmö, Sweden, ("INBAB").

IKEA Austria is entitled to perform its contractual obligations set out herein, in whole or in part, jointly with INBAB in the future and to exercise its rights and obligations set out in these Terms and Conditions, in whole or in part, jointly with INBAB.

7. Termination

If there is an important reason that makes it unreasonable for us to maintain the contractual relationship, we have the right to terminate the IKEA Family membership without notice. An important reason in this sense exists in particular if

  • you violate these IKEA Family Terms and Conditions again despite a warning from us by email;
  • you provide us with false information;
  • you violate applicable laws when using IKEA Family;
  • your IKEA Family profile has been inactive for more than five (5) years;
  • or in the event of a serious change in circumstances, for example because it is no longer possible for us to operate IKEA Family economically due to changed economic or legal circumstances.

By inactivity, we mean that you have not interacted with IKEA Austria, including logging into your profile, opening our emails, or making registered purchases. We will notify you by email of the termination of your IKEA Family membership.

We have the right to terminate the contractual relationship by giving two weeks' notice in writing by email to the last email address you provided. All points collected as part of rewards from IKEA Family can be redeemed within their validity period until the end of the notice period. Vouchers can still be redeemed within their validity period.

You can terminate the contractual relationship at any time without notice by deleting your profile (see section 8).

Penalty for violating the IKEA Family Terms and Conditions

If you violate these IKEA Family Terms and Conditions (for example, by creating multiple IKEA Family profiles without authorization), we also reserve the right to cancel any vouchers, points, or other membership benefits you have received. A violation occurs in particular in the event of misuse or manipulation of the collection or redemption of IKEA Family rewards.

8. What happens if I no longer want to be an IKEA Family member?

We are sad to see you go, but if you really want to leave IKEA Family, you can do so by simply deleting your profile.

If you decide that you no longer want to be an IKEA Family member, you can delete your profile at any time in the profile settings on our website. If you do so, you will no longer be able to benefit from IKEA Family membership and its advantages. Any benefits accrued at the time of termination of your membership will expire and can no longer be redeemed. If you need help deleting your profile/terminating your membership, you can also contact our customer service (www.IKEA.at/Contact).

9. Limitation of liability

We do our best to make IKEA Family special, but we cannot promise that it will always be perfect.

IKEA Austria is liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence.

IKEA Austria is only liable for slight negligence—except in cases of injury to life, limb, or health—if essential contractual obligations are violated and limited to the typical and foreseeable damage. Essential contractual obligations are those obligations whose fulfillment is necessary for the proper execution of the contract and on whose fulfillment the contractual partner can regularly rely.

Otherwise, IKEA Austria's liability for slight negligence is excluded. The limitations of liability in this provision also apply to the organs, authorized representatives, employees, and agents of IKEA Austria.

10. Final provisions

Let's stay friends (hey, you're even part of the family), here's some more information.

Austrian law applies, excluding its referral provisions and the provisions of the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Notwithstanding this, consumers may invoke the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law applicable in their country of habitual residence.

For legal action taken by IKEA Family members against IKEA Austria, Vienna, Innere Stadt is agreed as the non-exclusive place of jurisdiction. For legal action taken by IKEA Austria against IKEA Family members, the court with local jurisdiction is the one in whose district the IKEA Family member is resident.

Should individual provisions of the contract, including these provisions, be or become invalid in whole or in part, or should the contract contain an unforeseen loophole, the validity of the remaining provisions or parts of such provisions shall remain unaffected. Should a provision be or become legally invalid, the provision in question shall be omitted without replacement. Only if the contract cannot continue to exist without the omitted provision and this would have particularly disadvantageous effects on the IKEA Family member, shall the dispositive law apply with regard to the contractual loophole that has arisen.

IKEA Austria is not willing or obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board in accordance with the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act (AStG).

The EU Commission's platform for online dispute resolution can be found at: www.ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/. You can reach us at www.IKEA.at/Contact
