IKEA Foundation Week, 20-26 October
Filling in the gaps
Now in its fifth year, IKEA Foundation Week 2025 invites you to complete the sentence on key topics, such as waste emission, food systems and renewable energy. What do you think the solutions are to bringing hope for our planet and a fairer, more inclusive future for everyone living on it?

Nobody has all the answers, but one thing we do know is that words can inspire action. Innovative and insightful solutions often come from dialogue and discussions. That's why this year, the IKEA Foundation is devoting the fifth annual IKEA Foundation Week to asking you! By taking this short, fun quiz, we hope to inspire you to think, discuss and maybe even take action on subjects such as waste, health and energy in more vulnerable parts of the world. Now without spoiling the fun, we think your answers may be spot on, but why not take the quiz and see for yourself? Click the button below or read on to find out more about how, through partnerships, the IKEA Foundation is working to improve energy and food systems in the communities that need it most.
Meet the partners

SNV
It takes a village
When it comes to building a sustainable future, even the smallest villages can make a difference. The IKEA Foundation and SNV are supporting farmers across East Africa to build stronger, more resilient food and energy systems. Nearly 80% of the rural population is employed in agriculture, but the climate crisis is making farming more challenging. By combining local, indigenous technologies with global innovations, smallholder farmers are empowered to adopt improved agricultural practices and innovative techniques like renewable energy.
By creating change from within these small communities, we can build resilient systems for those who are most affected by climate change, with the potential to change lives and the planet for the better.
Sustain Plus
A brighter economy
A focus on renewable energy isn’t just good for the planet, but for incomes too. That’s why the IKEA Foundation is partnering with Sustain Plus to provide local farmers and micro businesses in rural communities with access to new technologies, equipment and renewable energy to increase productivity and profitability. Sun-powered solutions like solar panels and communal irrigation systems run by solar pumps provide electricity for machinery and support better crop yields.

Empowering farmers through innovation

Global Methane Hub
Less hot air
Methane produced by organic food waste is a huge contributor to climate change. Emissions from methane is 86 times more potent than carbon dioxide, so recycling organic waste – and more importantly, reducing the amount of food that we waste is key to reducing global warming and improving air quality. The IKEA Foundation is supporting the Global Methane Hub as it works to reduce methane emissions worldwide. By educating, connecting and funding businesses and organisations that are mitigating methane reduction in local communities worldwide, the Global Methane Hub is working to improve waste handling and reduce methane pollution.
TechnoServe
Accelerating upcycling
While some see waste, TechnoServe sees resourcefulness! TechnoServe’s Greenr Sustainability Accelerator helps with funding, hiring and strategies for environmental entrepreneurs and startups working to give waste a new lease of life. Teaming up with TechnoServe, the IKEA Foundation provides a boost to small and growing businesses in India that make a positive impact by recycling waste into new products, while creating jobs – a win for all! From turning biomass waste into chemicals such as silica to sustainable sanitation and upcycling residential and corporate waste to reduce landfill, TechnoServe and the IKEA Foundation are working with inspiring new talents to clean up waste in India.

EAT
Feed the world
Can we feed a population of 10 billion people a healthy diet and protect the planet? EAT, a non-profit, science-based global platform dedicated to transforming our global food system, is hopeful. With support from the IKEA Foundation, EAT recently launched the 2025 EAT-Lancet Commission – cutting-edge research to help transform global food systems. The goal is to ensure that everyone, everywhere, has fair and equal access to healthy and sustainable food that supports both people and lower environmental impact.
