Welcome to hygge central
Comfort and cosiness reign supreme in the Danish home. Danes love nothing more than cosying up with friends and family; in fact, they’ve even got a name for it. "Hygge" is about creating a convivial, relaxed atmosphere that provides comfort, warmth and togetherness. According to the 2024 IKEA Life at Home report, 70% of those surveyed and living in Denmark agreed that the most important thing at home is the possibility to relax. Calm, muted colours, natural materials and plenty of light create the perfect environment for relaxation and hygge. Let's take a look at some more facts about life at home in Denmark.

Food facts Let's eat
In Denmark, food is about much more than eating, it's something to gather around, share and look forward to. At IKEA Denmark, themed dishes on the menu reflect the seasons and traditions of Danish culture. Here’s what you might find in our restaurant, bistro and of course, our Swedish Food Market.

Everyday favourites
Most Danes eat three meals a day: maybe a sandwich or something cold for breakfast and lunch, but evenings are where friends and families get together for a warm meal over the day's hot topics. Take a look at some favourite foods that tickle their taste buds.
Our co-workers Ask our co-workers
What makes IKEA and in particular, IKEA Denmark so special? Well apart from being one of our closest neighbours, Danes are also famous for their love for great design. We asked three of our friendly co-workers at IKEA Denmark to share their local knowledge and IKEA insight.

- What's your favourite IKEA product?
- Avgi
ISTAD food storage bags, because I can use them for so many things besides storing food – especially when travelling with kids!
- Aksel
Without a doubt, it's the orange DYVLINGE chair. Orange is my favourite colour, and the chair is perfect for reading a book or for late night gaming.
- Sandra
In the kitchen, I rely on the IKEA 365+ storage jars – the glass containers are perfect for keeping my prepped vegetables and leftovers fresh and organised.
- What's your top tip for anyone visiting Denmark?
- Avgi
Try the Danish pastries. Cardamom twirls are delicious!
- Aksel
Most Danes would recommend Copenhagen or Tivoli, but I always suggest going outside the big cities. Visit the countryside, admire the fields, take a walk in the forests, or canoe along our many small lakes.
- Sandra
Take a bike ride through the charming streets of Copenhagen, where beautiful historic buildings line the way. Stop by a cosy interior shop, then enjoy a coffee or a delicious meal at one of the many small cafés or restaurants.
- What do you like most about working for IKEA?
- Avgi
I like that I have many opportunities to grow; not only the business and our people, but also myself. It's a great place, with a strong focus on people. It feels like a family.
- Aksel
I like the way many of us think. We all seem aligned on so many things. Co-workers are always ready to help, no matter how big or small the task.
- Sandra
I love that home furnishing is at the heart of our business. It’s all about creating functional solutions and constantly improving to help the many people create a better everyday life – no matter where they are in life.
Campaigns It's just IKEA
We've all modestly shrugged off a compliment at some point. This advertisement, "Det' bare IKEA" (it's just IKEA) is a play on our modesty at IKEA, and how we've been offering stylish home products and solutions to design-loving Danes since 1969.
What's happening at your local IKEA?
