Welcome to hygge central

Comfort and cosiness reign supreme in the Danish home. Danes love nothing more than cosying up with friends and family; in fact, they’ve even got a name for it. "Hygge" is about creating a convivial, relaxed atmosphere that provides comfort, warmth and togetherness. According to the 2024 IKEA Life at Home report, 70% of those surveyed and living in Denmark agreed that the most important thing at home is the possibility to relax. Calm, muted colours, natural materials and plenty of light create the perfect environment for relaxation and hygge. Let's take a look at some more facts about life at home in Denmark.

Most Danes eat three meals a day: maybe a sandwich or something cold for breakfast and lunch, but evenings are where friends and families get together for a warm meal over the day's hot topics. Take a look at some favourite foods that tickle their taste buds.

  • What's your favourite IKEA product?
