The play revolution begins at home

Few – if any – things spark as much joy as play. In fact, all the research (including our own) shows just how beneficial play is for kids and adults alike.

The IKEA long-term investment in understanding more about play, which includes four Play Reports to date, reveals that most parents want to play more with their children but struggle with time, space and inspiration. In a world of work, pressure and never-ending to do lists, playtime can often get postponed or forgotten about entirely.

So, in a world that can feel uncertain and scary, we decided what we need is more fun. Much more. That’s why we’ve dedicated an entire 33-piece collection to playfulness – the very antidote to worry and stress!

Play is contagious

The design process behind the GREJSIMOJS collection was as playful as the products themselves. 20 designers came together to collaborate with just one rule guiding them: every item should make people smile. "Playfulness is contagious, which we noticed when we showed sketches and prototypes in our Älmhult office,” says IKEA designer Marta Krupińska. “I had people, with and without kids, coming up to me and saying that they really would love to bring these things home. And nearly every person who walked past had to pat the giraffe lamp's head or give the storage cats a belly rub."
