Collections and global products created so far through social businesses

The result of IKEA partnering with social businesses has always been a selection of affordable limited edition collections and products. These collections and products are key in keeping the IKEA offer exciting and unique. And with global products available throughout the year, items from a social business are always accessible at IKEA.

2021

LOKALT, means ‘Local’ in Swedish, and is co-created with social businesses. For this project IKEA tried something new: to collaborate with local designers and social businesses in India, Jordan and Thailand. Together with fashion designer Tania Haddad from Amman, the design duo Ploypan Theerachai and Decha Archjananun based in Bangkok, and Akanksha Deo based in Delhi, the collection LOKALT was given life. Local stories, told by local designers, and made by local artisans.

BOTANISK was a handmade collection made up of plant pots, baskets, paper pot maker, plant pot cover, tool bag – based on natural materials like banana fibre, jute, and cotton.

This hand-embroidered cushion cover from the TILLTALANDE collection, was made in collaboration with Jordan River Foundation, who work to create long-term livelihoods for female artisans in Jordan.

Together with designer Martin Bergström, ANNANSTANS was produced with artisans in India, Romania, Thailand and Jordan; and ranged from scarves and bags, to ceramic bowls, banana-fibre baskets and more.

With HANTVERK, Scandinavian handicraft tradition was mixed with new inspiration from around the world. The outcome was baskets, ceramics, textiles and more made by artisans in Thailand, India, Jordan and Romania.

The INNEHÅLLSRIK collection was made from natural materials and showcases traditional handicraft, including banana fibre baskets, handwoven and hand embroidered blankets, towels and cushion covers. The collection was developed together with skilled artisans.

TILLTALANDE was a collection of precious, hand-crafted textiles made in collaboration with Jordan River Foundation and women artisans, both Jordanian locals and refugees.

For the production of the UTZ/Rainforest Alliance certified, single-origin PÅTÅR coffee, IKEA partnered with Ahlod Kawacom and their network of small farm holders in Uganda. The coffee is sold in IKEA stores globally.

The FULLVIKTIG collection of woven textiles, pottery and handmade paper products was co-created by artisans in Thailand, using traditional handicraft techniques and local materials.

The STADIGT collection included hand-embroidered cushion covers and throws, hand-woven pouffes, cushions and storage boxes and baskets in natural banana fibres.

Made with artisans from Doi Tung in Thailand, the VÄLBALANS collection included hand-formed ceramics and hand-woven textile. It also offered handmade paper products such as gift-boxes, notebooks and notecards.

BEDRIVA was the very first IKEA social entrepreneur limited edition collection, made with local artisans from Doi Tung in northern Thailand. It offered handmade dinnerware and vases as well as hand-woven textiles.

UPPTAGEN, FNITTRA and LYKTRANKA featured hand-embroidered textiles and baskets in natural fibres. The collection was created in collaboration with Industree Producer Transform and Swaayam Kala in India.

VERKAN featured handmade products such as plates, bowls, vases, throws and cushion covers. The collection was made with local artisans from Doi Tung in northern Thailand.
