IKEA awarded with four Good Design Awards
IKEA has been awarded with 2018 GOOD DESIGN Award for innovative and cutting-edge designs. The awards go to ÖVERALLT collection, IKEA 365+ food storage platform, SKYMNINGEN lamp and BURVIK table. GOOD DESIGN is one of the oldest, most prestigious and well recognised programmes for design excellence worldwide.
"At IKEA we believe that good, qualitative design should be available to the many people, we call it Democratic Design. We are very happy to receive these four Good Design Awards for innovative and cutting-edge designs, and it shows that our way of working with form, function, quality and sustainability at an affordable price is appreciated," says Evamaria Rönnegård, Design Manager for Product Design at IKEA of Sweden.
Each year, The Chicago Athenaeum presents the GOOD DESIGN Awards Program for the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial, product, and graphic designs produced around the world. The emphasis of the GOOD DESIGN program is on quality design of the highest form, function, and aesthetics a standard beyond ordinary consumer products and graphics.
The awarded collection ÖVERALLT is inspired by the modern urban rituals that are common across all cultures, the things we do and use every day to feel at home. The products range from tableware and seating to textiles and will launch in May 2019.
"ÖVERALLT is the result of a collaboration across disciplines as well as continents. It´s celebrating everyday shared moments like eating or commonalities like patterns and stories. With this collection we´re hoping to encourage conversations, that people meet and socialize together," says James Futcher, creative leader at IKEA of Sweden.
Award winning food storage platform IKEA 365+ is designed to be used every day. The food containers with the snap-and-lock lid, oven-safe glass and transparent lid are designed to keep food fresher longer and to reduce the risk of food being wasted.
"IKEA 365+ Food Storage Platform is a beautiful example of Democratic Design, where form, function, quality, sustainability and price are all in balance. The platform is a system with well thought through sizes and functional materials. The boxes share the same top rim, so the lids that has a couple of different functions, fits accordingly to what you will store. This means that you can prepare, cook, store and move your food, basically with just changing the lid. It makes life easier, will create less mess, dish and also less waste of food in kitchens worldwide," says Sarah Fager, designer at IKEA of Sweden.
Award winning SKYMNINGEN pendant lamp is designed to both direct the light on the table and create a beautiful sculptural effect between light, shadows and reflections. A lamp offering form and light in perfect harmony. SKYMNINGEN will launch in February 2019.
IKEA BURVIK side table is designed to fit the fluid home. It is light and small enough to lift with one hand and has a handle and extra high edges on the table top which makes it easy to carry around the home.
All winning products and graphics from GOOD DESIGN 2018 are now part of the museums prestigious permanent design collection. The jury, which consists of distinguished design professionals and leading industry specialists and design press, has selected the winners among over 900 new products and graphic designs from over 47 countries.
