IKEA teams up with Teklan to transform home electronics into colourful and bold statement pieces, beginning with speakers
IKEA and Teklan are working together to explore how the use of colour, patterns, and geometric forms can reimagine everyday home electronics. By connecting technology with personal style, the partnership aims to bring home electronics to the forefront with items that are full of character and colour.
IKEA is joining forces with Tekla Evelina Severin, commonly known as “Teklan”, a multidisciplinary colourist, who brings a unique perspective to the role of colour and patterns in the home. With a background in working across various mediums and a focus on bold yet harmonious combinations, Tekla Evelina Severin and IKEA will explore how home electronics can become a more natural part of peoples’ everyday environments.
“Colour has the power to shift our perspective and encourage us to see everyday objects in new ways,” says Teklan. “With this collaboration, I hope we can inspire more people to explore what colour can be and what it does for a home — inviting them to reconsider the role that home electronics can play. By approaching them as part of the home’s overall identity, we can create environments where colours, patterns, and technology come together naturally.”
To kick-start the journey, IKEA is introducing two refreshed editions of the VAPPEBY portable Bluetooth speaker, updated with new colour combinations and patterns. The new speakers, available starting now, are versatile and waterproof*, holding up to 80 hours of playing time. The bluetooth speakers give customers a glimpse into what’s ahead — a line of products that explore how colour, pattern, and form can invite more personality into the home electronics category.
“Home electronics is seen by many as something functional that you sometimes want to hide, and it can be difficult to make products blend naturally with the rest of the interior,” says Sara Ottosson, Product Developer at IKEA. “Collaborating with Tekla Evelina Severin allows us to explore how colour and design can bring home furnishing and electronics closer together, with pieces that you are excited to display.”
The full collaboration is set to launch in early 2026, and further details will be shared closer to that time.
*VAPPEBY is tested according to IP67, which indicates its ability to withstand dust and water. The device is dust tight and can endure being submerged in water for up to 30 minutes.
