IKEA and Raffaella Mangiarotti expand their collaboration with two new floor lamps
Designed by Raffaella Mangiarotti, IKEA brings high-quality lighting at accessible prices with two dual-shaded statement pieces, MOSSPLYM and TRÅDNATE. The two distinct designs carry elegant proportions and a strong material-driven expression, combining Italian Carrara marble, solid oak and steel with brass and nickel details.
Both lamps are built as sculptural furniture objects, carrying weight and presence in a room. Drawing on the classic uplight archetype, they combine ambient lighting with a more focused task light.
"This level of material quality and design shouldn't be reserved for the few. We focused on durability and the very best materials to show that exceptional quality can still come at a price more people can afford," says Chiara Ripalti, Lighting Product Developer at IKEA of Sweden.
The designs are part of a broader light shift at IKEA, rooted in Scandinavian simplicity and the Nordic use of light to shape atmosphere, towards a contemporary international design language.
MOSSPLYM is made from solid oak, blow-molded glass and Italian white Carrara marble. Available in light or dark oak, its slender stem sits on a heavy marble base where natural veining makes each piece unique. The glass shade at the crown takes its softly rounded form from the essential shape of a flower blossom, and is accompanied by a smaller adjustable shade lower on the pole for reading or task light. Both create a soft glow through two-layer frosted glass, providing ambient and technical light.
"The new lamps combine an uplight and a reading light — a dual function that often results in two elements that feel artificially joined. It was important for me to bring something beautiful into a residential space, combining two functions rooted in Nordic design principles without compromising aesthetics," says Raffaella Mangiarotti.
TRÅDNATE's tall and architectural form is rooted in Mangiarotti's ongoing dialogue with the geometry of nature. Designed around two parallel structural supports, each holding an opaque shade, the composition finds balance in the shades opposing directions — one shade fixed upward to brighten a room, the other on a rotatable arm for directed task light. The lamp is anchored by a heavy base and finished with brass details.
"I've always had a passion for lighting, and it's a dream to be able to combine different functions and typologies of light — with the kind of global reach only accessible to IKEA," says Raffaella Mangiarotti.
MOSSPLYM and TRÅDNATE are the second designs by Raffaella Mangiarotti for IKEA. Her debut BÄCKNATE — a table and floor lamp with an orchid-like form made from folded paper — was nominated for the Compasso d'Oro, Italy's oldest and most prestigious design award, often referred to as the Nobel Prize of industrial design. Based in Milan, Mangiarotti has received more than 40 international design awards and her work is held in the permanent collection at MoMA, New York. The collaboration with IKEA is long-term, with additional lighting pieces in development.
The designs will be displayed at the IKEA Milan Design Week 2026 exhibition, at Spazio Maiocchi, between 21 and 26 April.
