In late 2023, Aida and Serik had an exciting design project in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The couple wanted to furnish eight full Airbnb units from top to bottom with IKEA products, but there was no store in the country. That’s when they contacted IKEA’s International Sales team. Let's see what they did!
“We liked the simplicity of being able to source all the products from one central place, and we could work with the team’s Interior Designer to reimagine each unit,” shared Aida.
After discussing the price range, measurements, and mood board, Interior Designer Astrid Harding-Voss from UPGREAT created a unique design plan for each of the 8 units’ kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living room. With her deep knowledge of the IKEA range, she knew which products would work best in each space. She also consulted with a Kitchen Planner in the IKEA Delft store to make sure that her kitchen designs were feasible and nothing was missing.
Once everything was approved, then it came time to pack the order for shipment. At the couple's request, the International Sales team loaded the products onto two separate trucks with a section for each Airbnb unit. This way, when it arrived at its destination, it was clear where everything needed to go.
As planned, the IKEA products made it safely to Almaty, and a local team hired by the couple assembled and installed each unit. Now they’re fresh and inspiring Airbnb units that make travellers feel right at home. Serik shared, “We’re getting five-star reviews from our guests, and it makes us so happy!”
