Reviews

Drawers fall off routed slidesKristieI saw lots of review for the trofast bins falling out of the routed slides and assumed it wouldn't be an issue for me. I was wrong. I wish I could post pictures of all my bins stacked at the bottom because they keep falling down! It's super functional, so I will be returning and getting it in white. The white doesn't seem to have this issue. I honestly can't believe this passed product testing. Because its tall, and has no lateral bracing, the middle bows outwards. This could easily be fixed with a slat on the middle of the back or a back panel that is nailed on. There are ways I could fix it myself with extra time and money, but I feel like a new product should still work by the end of the 1st week without after market fixes. It was also challenging to tighten the screws into the wood. My hands were pretty sore after putting it together. Maybe I'm just a wuss... definitely would use a longer Allen wrench or a drill next time. 1
No longer the quality construction of years agoAnneYears ago I bought a TROFAST frame. It was well constructed with all the routing areas well finished. Also, the front and back pieces which are attached to the top and bottom pieces went together so that the "line" between the pieces was straight (not v-shaped) with a tight, even distance between pieces consistently the same so dirt didn't fall into the gap. The routed areas which are used to hold the bins were no longer smooth and nice looking--there are rough gaps. Also, because the pieces are not constructed with the tolerances of years ago, the assembly proved to be more difficult than I was expecting with an IKEA product. I recently purchased multiple TROFAST frames and they were all the same--much poorer quality than years ago. I kept them because they are being used in a garage, near the garage door, and this was the best storage/ease of access solution for my purposes. 2
Sturdy Little Cubby Storage.JaredGood storage cabinet.5
It is not the same as the other other TROFAST FrameLuBe careful. Mistakenly bought this one. I wanted one for storing my son's legos, and chose this wooden color to match other furnitures in the living room. However, the problem is this wooden frame does not have drawer rail, so the storage boxes are difficult to be pulled in and other. Not suitable for kid's usage at all. Totally a mistake!!3
Very durable love this productSierraVery durable love this product especially for the children. Suck the price of item increased almost 2x’s the old amount5
Perfect storage in our boys room!ValerieI had been waiting for this to come back in stock. The natural look merges the colors of our other furniture perfectly! Very sturdy and easy to assemble. Our boys use it for toy storage and has been a successful addition to their train table area, so that they can get the pieces they want.5
love love love the no plastic option!MeghanI am so excited about Ikea’s commitment to making their products more sustainable. This was super sturdy and you don’t have to worry about those stupid plastic rails breaking because they’re carved right into the sides of the wood. It’s perfect. Paired with the wire baskets you can see through? :heart-eyes:5
Nice, But Smaller Than ExpectedAntonioThis was a nice piece but the shelf and bins are smaller than they appeared in pictures. I really wish Ikea would allow customers to upload pictures for their reviews so expectations can be more realistic. With that aside; the installation was quick and easy, and once assembled was nice and sturdy. The actual height of this Trofast was around 3ft tall, and maybe a little more than 1ft wide, from front to back about 1ft as well. So it’s miniature in size for toddlers to freely access the bins and all (like kid furniture). Hope this helps you with your decision to purchase.4
It's exactly what I imagined.KimI've been eyeing this product for a few years. I finally bit the bullet. It's exactly what I imagined. I'm glad I went wit the real wood one. It is a little pricey but it's worth it.5
Stay away from this storage!SushantThe storage is defective - it can't be assembled because the holes don't line up. Just google trofast and defective and you'll see what i mean. Unless you want to spend 2-3 hours (and $$) only to get frustrated and annoyed with IKEA - would recommend staying away. Would give this storage negative star if i could - just bunch of crap delivered to my home.1

LEGO TableVerified BuyerWe used the Trofast to make LEGO tables for our kids. We bought 5 of them but only built 3 fully. we used the other two on the outsides of the built ones to make a shelving area which we then used plywood for (with superglued LEGO bases). It looks great!5
Great storageCarolMy 6 yr old granddaughter and I put it together. Big fun.5
perfect kids storageVerified BuyerGot this for extra storage with the bins that go with it and I have another like it from this type of collection they have. This was good because you can paint it and decorate it anyway you like. It was very easy to assemble as well.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favorite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the tree species, it is durable, beautiful and renewable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood.
