Poor Storage DesignCarlBought this desk due to large top surface(61” x 25”). Drawers and shelf spaces are poorly designed. The “file” drawer does not open far enough to get files out of the drawer. Left side shelves are too narrow to be very useful.
Nice qualitySUSANNEDesk is nice quality. I would have given it a 5 but the screws for drawer glides stripped easily while trying to assemble. I had to order more screws which delayed final assembly.
Great firm wooden deskORLANDOThe desk is made with great solid wood, it was fairly easy to build but it took a couple of hours. The only flaw was that they only put one very thin coat of paint and you can see the grain of wood right through it. Other than that is a very good desk!

THE BAD: It looks unfinished. There are obvious blue smudges very visible through the stain: it looks like it needed another coat or 2 to look finished. I thought about returning, but I already sank a few hours into assembly, I need a desk NOW, & I don't know if it would be any better even if I exchanged it, as my white hemnes bookcase I bought to match has the same problem on some of the pieces. I miss the old hemnes white finish that looked much more, well...finished. Having the woodgrain show through is nice, but not if that means blue smudges are coming through. I might buy a stain or paint and add another coat myself, but I'm pretty irritated about potentially needing to do that. If I could guarantee a non-blue-smudged set with an exchange, I would be exchanging. I loved the hemnes line before, but now I'm done with it.
Wasted TimeKendra Y.I’ve spent most of my day putting this together, as I’m juggling WFH and 5 month old. Almost finish just to find the drawers and bottoms of cabinets are not aligned/finished. So now I need to make time to take it allllll apart and have no idea how I’m going to box it since I had to rip it open. 1 layer of paint makes it look cheap, you can see the brown underneath. Very disappointed.
Beautiful deskmitchell k.I recently moved and bought furniture. IKEA is king of assembly required furniture bar none. Any furniture I purchased from anywhere else that needed assembly was just not as good quality as IKEA. This Hemnes desk is a great case in point. I purchased another desk for my son from Wayfair...Assembly required...The quality was seriously lacking. Didn't fit together as well as IKEA products. Finish wasn't as good...ETC... I bought this Hemnes desk and I love it. IKEA thought of everything when engineering this desk. Assembled as tight as a tiger. Drawers are mounted on the smoothest metal ball bearing slides. Great finish. Quality is top notch. I wish I bought 2 of these desks instead of 1.
