Amazing look82Emma94Very well made and fit perfect into the bedroom. Has deep drawers, holds a lot.5
So pretty!kbmatthewsFinally took the (long) trip to IKEA for this dresser I’ve wanted for so long, so glad it wasn’t damaged like a couple of my other pieces. It’s so sturdy, huuuggeee, and sleek. It took me and a friend two days to put it together, totally worth it.5
Solid and durable--plus looks goodnjprothI purchased this dresser and two end tables for a bedroom about 5-6 years ago. They are solid pieces of furniture and still look great. In addition to expressing my satisfaction, I'd like to take this opportunity to talk about my experience with assembling the units. I am reasonably handy but am only 5'3 and would have been in my mid-60's then. It was definitely not a one hour process (many drawers), but it was definitely doable. Although I thought I might need help, the quality of the workmanship (alignment of screw holes, etc.) meant that all I needed was patience. Kudos to IKEA.5
Smells bad. Not solid wood.Asheville customerBought a week ago after it was gone from the store for a long time. Assembled it myself, yes, instructions could be better, but a smart person will not have any trouble figuring out (yes, I am smart, thank you). When I took it out of the box, the strong pungent smell of pine mixed with nauseating sweet smell of glues and finishes hit me immediately. The first night I slept with it in the bedroom, I woke up with a headache even though my windows were open. I think there are several reasons for the smell - first, the dresser is not made of solid wood - the wooden sides are made of narrow pieces which had to be glued together. The bottoms and back are made of a horrible veneer, which probably gave off the nauseating sweet smell. Also, since they were out of this product for a long time, and since I bought it on the exact day they had received their new shipment, I think this dresser was probably made in a hurry with raw materials which had not had a chance to dry therefore all the bare wood and veneer parts had almost a sticky feeling to them and reeked of natural and synthetic materials. As far as functionality, it worked well, but I found the drawers sliders were positioned in a way that when you open the drawer, 1/3 of it was still hidden under the dresser, therefore the contents were not fully exposed and easy to reach. I do wish it worked better and didn't smell because the price is great and it looks great. A tip for anyone who is going to get it and assemble it themselves - do not use the white plastic bolts - 34 of them, because it will be almost impossible to take them out (they had smooth round heads so you cannot use a screwdriver), instead, for only $5-6 buy the same size metal ones that can be screwed in from Lowes or Home Depot - it paid off when I had to disassemble it. Darn, now off to find another one.3
StrongVeri7Bought this a month ago and Im so happy I did. Nice color and draws are big and fits everything. Love it!!!.5
Favorite Dresser. Purchased it againbuttercuplongI first purchased this dresser in 2008 and in 2019 was when I finally let go of it due to me losing pieces and constant moving of the dresser which weakened it, basically I thought it was time. When I did get rid of it, I then regretted because it was a dresser that could've been fixed back up. Overall I purchased another due to the longevity I had with the previous and I also have the tall dresser to match.5
Cheep materialLunaemiPoor construction and material1
Very badFerhat 351I bought a month ago but quality is so bad1
Sleek beautiful pieceJenny94We had to wait for the dresser to be available, but once it was we bought it and assembled it immediately! Instructions were easy to follow even though it’s a large piece5
Horrible smell and difficult to assembleAnaNNThis dresser smells horrible , I’m pregnant and I’m due in 2 weeks I bought this dresser for my baby’s clothes but now I regret Buying it . The smell won’t go away which is giving me headaches . I try leaving all the drawers open and I keep the room window open to see if it helps but it still smells and I’m concern that the smell will harm my baby . Also it is difficult to assemble the dresser I had to watch videos and still struggle to assembled it . It took me hours to assemble it and more because of the smell . But what I’m more worried about it that the smell could harm my baby in womb and when the baby is born .1
jcarpenterI bought this and once we got to putting the top on we noticed it was split. we didn't want to return because it took all day to assemble but it was really disappointing3
Good valueDenver557Listen this is IKEA, so you should not expect the dresser to be like something you get at West Elm. That being said, this dresser is still really great for the price. It’s solid wood, and it’s very sturdy. Assembly: The assembly really isn’t that hard. I know a lot of people think the instructions are difficult to understand, but if you just read through them first, everything will make sense. The only complaint I have is that you have to take all of the wood pieces out of the three boxes before doing anything, and they should label the instructions to show you where the stained and unstained pieces go. Still though, you can figure it out. Finally, the instructions recommend two people assemble this. I do too. It took me about 10-12 hours total to do this. It would probably take less than half that with another person. Appearance: I bought the medium brown dresser, and it’s a nice color. I was concerned about how sturdy the dresser was actually going to be during assembly, but after everything is put together, it’s very sturdy. Bottom line: If you’re on the fence about this dresser, buy it. It’s solid wood! Not particle board. You’re not getting better value for money with the number of finishes IKEA offers.4
Great Dresser!LeeAnniemarieeI bought this a couple months ago and I love it! The instructions are a little difficult to understand because they don’t specifically say which pieces are which. But once it’s built it’s truly an amazing dresser! The drawers are such a good size and it’s very sturdy. Definitely worth the price!5
Furniture not worth the assembly headacheRecentCustomerMany of the screws provided are of low quality and can be easily stripped. One of the screws on on one of the bottom drawers does not screw in fully. The screw must go all the way in, or the drawer will not shut. This screw is stripped and now I cannot fully shut one of the large bottom drawers. I found other holes were not well cut for the screw which made it difficult to assemble. Instructions need to be much clearer as well (e.g. labeling the pieces would be helpful).2
It smells horribleMaryam KamiI am expecting a baby in 2 months and set up this dresser with matching bed. they smell horrible and cannot be used even after 2 weeks. I am concern if it has any chemical harming my unborn baby. I would like to return this if smell does not go away.1
Very spaciousPrin58Glad I purchased. Drawers have lots of room. Well made5
Waste of Time and Money!Jh2020TPurchased this 8 drawer dresser today and the holes don't all line up. Ended up splitting a piece of wood trying to get things to work and now I have an unusable dresser. Waste of my time and money. Very poor instructions and poor quality!!!1
3rd one, great valueeSquirrelI have two of these in my home, they proven to be will built and hold an amazing amount of clothing. My in-laws have a fancy to look at but minimal real capacity dresser and a need for real capacity, it was an easy decision to buy number 3.5
Great sizeNuajI got this for my daughter great size drawers for all her stuff and great height5
Very Disappointedfergie3645I recently purchased this dresser in white. I have owned this dresser in the dark color for years and love it! It has held up very well, so this lead me to buying it again. Upon putting the new dresser together, while from the front it looks the same as my old dresser, I noticed they had changed the assembly of it. I did not think anything of it while I was putting it together. I have had the new dresser in use for about 2-3 weeks. It has the same clothes in it that the old one had in it and the same TV on top. However, this new dresser is very noticeably sagging/caving inward! The dresser was put together exactly as the instructions said. Upon further Googling, it has come to my attention, that this sagging issue a known problem with this new design. I really wish I had known this BEFORE spending hours putting it together. I really do like the look of it, minus the sagging drawers. I know that I can return it up to 365 days, but is that really the right answer? IKEA do you have a a fix for this known problem?2

Secure your home from tipping furniture

When your child begins to crawl and climb, the whole home turns into an exciting adventure land. But, since the toddler doesn’t have any risk awareness, the home environment can hold some hazards, for example furniture that can tip over. Sometimes it can be difficult to see the risks at home where everything is familiar. Here we unravel some common myths and misconceptions that explain why not all chests of drawers have been secured to the wall.  Read More

Low furniture can tip too

One might think that only high, narrow furniture can tip over – not a low, deep chest of drawers filled with heavy things. But, if several drawers are open, the centre of gravity shifts and the chest of drawers tips over. Unfortunately, both children and adults can be seriously injured, even fatally, if they end up under the weight of a falling chest of drawers. Accidents can also happen because heavy objects on top of a piece of furniture fall down, for example, a TV. The heavier things, the more serious consequences. Experience shows that it’s absolutely safest to secure all furniture that risk tipping over to a wall.

Remember the laws of physics?

When we develop our furniture, we do everything we can to make them as stable and safe as possible. It affects the choice of materials and the furniture’s construction. But, we haven’t yet figured out how to outsmart the laws of nature. Like the fact that a pulled out drawer works like a lever. Perhaps you remember the principle of leverage from the physics lessons in school? If not, it can be described like this; even a small weight can shift the center of gravity considerably if the weight is applied to a pulled out drawer (or an open door). It means that a small child that stands, sits or climbs on an open drawer can cause a large chest of drawers to tip over if it’s not secured – despite the child’s low weight.

Children and tipping chests of drawers

Children are curious and creative. That’s how they learn new things and discover the world around them. But, it also contributes to children 1-7 years old being more accident-prone. And the smallest ones, 1-4 years old, are most at risk of serious injuries. That’s why a chest of drawers – no matter model or size – can be a hazard if it isn’t secured to the wall. There are examples from all over the world where children have pulled out one or several drawers and climbed on them like a ladder, hung on, heaved up on, or climbed into them. But, by always securing your chest of drawers to the wall you can prevent and minimize the risks for children who explore the world.

Adults and tipping chests of drawers

It isn’t just children who accidentally tip over chests of drawers and risk injuries. Even as adults we sometimes open several drawers at the same time, especially if we’re in a hurry. Another mistake we sometimes make is to put too many or too heavy things in the front of the drawers. In all these cases the center of gravity shifts outside the base of the furniture and they tip over. An uneven floor, a carpet edge or a thick wall-to-wall carpet can also cause instability and tipping accidents.

Common myths and misconceptions

Sometimes it can be hard to discover the potential hazards in your own home where everything is familiar. Here we unravel some common myths and misconceptions that explain why not all chests of drawers have been secured to the wall.

My chest of drawers is heavy, there’s no risk that it will tip over

No matter how logical this might feel, it’s actually wrong. All furniture can tip over. They become unstable if they have open drawers or doors that work as a lever and move the center of gravity. The force that’s generated when furniture tip over can be strong and cause very serious accidents – especially if they’re heavy-loaded.

My chest of drawers is low, there’s no risk that it will tip over

Low furniture can tip too and risk injuring someone. If several drawers are opened at the same time, the center of gravity moves. And when too much weight is distributed from the center of a chest of drawers, it tips over. A child that climbs on it, affects the center of gravity the same way. That’s why you should always follow the assembly instructions that show how to secure your furniture to the wall.

The chest of drawers is in a room where the children never play

As a parent, it’s hard to keep an eye on your children at all times. Unfortunately, many accidents happen when you lack foresight. Luckily you have good possibilities to minimize the risks if you secure chests of drawers and other furniture to the wall – even in rooms where the children don’t spend much time.

I have latched all drawers and doors

That’s all well. But, latching drawers and doors can’t replace securing the furniture and doesn’t eliminate all risks. A child learning to walk usually likes to heave up against a chest of drawers by pulling a handle, and can thereby make it tip over.

My children are older, they know not to climb the furniture

When children play, they sometimes forget what you have told them. Just because they are older doesn’t mean it’s all safe. In addition, many adults, especially elderly, hurt themselves badly, sometimes fatally, in accidents with furniture that tip over.

I rent my home and can’t drill holes in the wall

Most landlords in most parts of the world think it’s OK if you secure your furniture to create a safe home for your children. But, it’s good to talk to your landlord and perhaps explain what risks there are. Feel free to spread some of the knowledge we are sharing here.

The accident risk seems small, do I have to care?

More people than one might think are injured every year in accidents with tipping furniture. Between 2006 and 2016 approximately 47,000 children under the age of 18 had to seek medical care in the US because of accidents with tipping chests of drawers (source: Consumer Product Safety Commission, Nov 2017). Holes in the wall are actually quite simple to fix – there’s no reason to risk the family’s safety.

Secure your chest of drawers, simple and safe

When you buy a chest of drawers from IKEA you should always follow the assembly instructions and secure it with the accompanied fittings. They’re easy to mount, and screws and plugs are included. Just fill the holes with putty when you want to move your chest of drawers, or are moving to another home.

My chest of drawers is heavy, there’s no risk that it will tip over

All furniture can tip over, especially if the drawers are opened and the center of gravity shifts.

My chest of drawers is low, there’s no risk that it will tip over

Low furniture can tip over too, so always follow the assembly instructions.

The chest of drawers is in a room where the children never play

It’s hard to keep an eye on your children at all times. Many accidents happen when they're out of sight.

I have latched all drawers and doors

That’s good. But, it doesn’t replace securing the furniture to the wall.

My children are older, they know not to climb the furniture

But, they easily forget. It isn’t all safe just because they are older.

My chest of drawers is stable and from a well-known furniture company

Even the seemingly most stable piece of furniture can tip over.

The risk of accidents seems small, do I have to care?

People are injured in these kinds of accidents every year. There’s no reason to risk the family’s safety.
