Wow! Great Price, solid productStanleyThe Friheten sofa bed is one of the few sofa beds that are comfortable. Gone is the metal bar in the middle of your back. If you like 60's modern look this one nails it in a very sophisticated way. Many of IKEA products tend to look like 60's knock-offs but the style of this seems to be a complete from-all-angles original design that is exciting and "complete" and needs no apologies. Love the product, looks great, plenty of storage, what's not to love! Priced at a point where you do not have to take out a second mortgage on your home just to own one. Your "couch surfing" friends and relatives will never leave... something one should seriously think about before letting them sleep on it. The one I like the best is with the darker grey cloth. IKEA more products like this Please!!!5
Friheten FutonMarkKinda spendy, but it is a VERY good futon. It wasn't the easiet to assemble, but it was doable with assistance from my daughter. The assembled futon is rather heavy, but I believe that is what makes it so good.5
Versatile, cozy sofaMatthewMy partner and I live in a small 800 sq foot appartment, so when we wanted to upgrade our sofa, the Friheten was our top choice. Its fairly comfortable, but definitely on the firm side. We love how versatile it is. For the two of us, we have enough space to both be able to stretch out on it. When we have guests over, up to four people can sit on it comfortably. Lastly, we can pull out the rolling extension to expand the sofa into the sleeper. The chaise storage holds all of our board games and puzzles and still has room for more. It is possible to construct on your own, but its really easy with an extra hand. My only complaint is our chaise is a little difficult to lift. I'm not sure what the issue is, whether the spring is a bit stiff on the hinge or it just needs a shot of WD40, but we lift it so infrequently that its not a dealbreaker. Overall, we're very happy with it and it is very much worth the investment. 4

Uncomfortable for lying down or sleepingKateI have owned one of these for almost five years. I would not have bought it if I had known about the biggest design flaw, which is that the area where the chaise connects to the couch part has a very hard hidden edge that you can feel when lying down, especially if you put your head toward the chaise end. This makes it extremely uncomfortable to lay in that position. You basically will feel a narrow board jamming into your ribs. If you lay down on the couch the other way with your feet toward the chaise end, well, there is no side edge to the couch, so your pillows tend to fall off. The cushions are very firm and extremely uncomfortable to lay on. So this whole thing is useless as a couch to lay down on, or as a bed. It’s fine for sitting and lounging on the chaise. I wish I wouldn’t have bought it. Cannot recommend the L-shaped Friheten. Very clever features but very flawed when it comes to comfort.2

Good convertible sofa sleeper!FrancesThis is a very a versatile sectional, good for a small family or living room. Love the extra storage under the chaise seat. It would be useful if another chaise can be added on the other side as an option.4
Office option + backup bedroomDanWorked for us for extra bedroom/office. Comfortable for an occasional sofa but the bed is a little hard. We might pick up a mattress topper for it. Overall perfect for what we needed.5
😊KelseyWe decided to switch out our original couch in the same model with a new color. One thing I noticed is that the dimensions are slightly different, but still works great. A lot of the comments on this couch are not super positive, but we had our first model of this couch for six years and loved it. We love the new color to match our living room better. The fold out bed feature does have some Divet‘s in the lines sectioning out the couch, but just using a foam pad illuminates sleeping uncomfortably. We do love this model of couch.4
Bad Quality Do not buyDavidNot even 6 months in and its falling apart. The backboard crumbling and about 2ft section on the backboard the staples are coming out. The side corner foam wasn't secure so it slides everywhere. Cushion where you sit sank in 1
Terrible quality, awful to clean!LeritzaWe’ve had it for a year now and I hate this couch so much and regret getting it at all. It traps everything - hair, dirt, easily frays. Not easy to clean due to product instructions, and it looks like we’ve had it for >5 yrs because of how quickly it degrades. Save your money and skip this.1
Doesn’t lastCarlaWe’ve had this sofa for about 7.5 years but we probably should’ve replaced it about 3 years ago. It’s our daily (only) couch and maybe used as a bed 10-15 times over that time. The main seating part is now a VERY noticeably different firmness than the part that pulls out and up to make it a bed. My husband says he can actually feel the wood beams when he sits down. There is no way to replace or re-stuff the cushions so unfortunately we’re just dealing with it until we can find something new. Such a bummer because the storage and pull-out sleeper are perfect for apartment life. 3
Quality is slippingMichaelWe bought on at least 6 years ago and it has gotten a lot of use. The cushions are in great shape. Just bought the same sofa for our condo and the fabric on the cushions is very wrinkled. Looks like it has been sat on for years yet has been used about 10 days. 2
Sturdy SectionalLisaGreat sectional for the price. I was amazed at how it was put together. Very sturdy. Great fabric. A+5
Great sleeper sofa AntonioWe have a small apartment and the living space is perfect for the sofa. The material is nice, definitely needs two people to build given the size of it. The bed pulls out with a breeze and when put away no one can tell it converts to a bed. The handles can be tucked away when in its sofa form. Would recommend anyone looking for an affordable sofa sleeper.5

Friheten black "leather" sleeper sofa: A worthwhile investment for my living roomCharlesI needed a good sleeper sofa for a 1-bedroom apartment. The style of the Friheten is superior to other sleeper sofas elsewhere. I prefer how the bed cushion pull out and up from the front, instead other designs where the bed folds out from under the cushions. The faux leather is comfortable to sit and sleep on, and it's easy to clean. The storage under the chaise (vertical section) is a plus; I use it to store sheets and an extra pillow for the potential overnight guest. I have also tried putting a twin mattress on top of the cushions. The sofa keeps the mattress in place. One drawback: The extension creates a 54" x 80" area. This is considered a "Full XL" size. Full XL sheets are hard to find in stores. It is impossible to use fitted sheets on it (even of the correct size) as the sheets cannot fit along the inside edge. All in all, a good value for the price paid. I paid to have a Taskrabbit person assemble it. He took 45 minutes to do it. It would've taken me a day. Worth it.5
My 3rd Friheten in 3 different homes! LuriceI purchased my 1st Friheten sectional sofa in Magenta in 2014 in Colorado, the 2nd in Heather Gray in 2018 in Italy, and the 3rd in Blue this year (2023) in Chicago. It's my favorite piece of furniture, so modern and perfect for us minimalists. Now, I'm on Etsy to buy a different color cover (Yellow) to change it up for the summer. I watched and followed a YouTube video and assembled this sectional myself in 1 hour and 20 minutes. I'm 50. My ONLY hiccup is that the picture of the screws on the instructions need to be 1000x larger. Seriously, I couldn't see them at all and only noticed because of the YouTube video. 3 stars for the instructions. Please enlarge and circle the part of the instructions where some of the screws get inserted. Otherwise, all else is fine.5
