Great product BrentExcellent product that works great. Also, the price is unbeatable!5
Can't pair with Eero or Echo DotMagnusSupposed to be Matter compatible but will not pair. So useless.1
Not bad, needs subtle tweakingMathewComparing this to the older Rodret or Strybar the first noticeable thing is response time. The Zigbee remotes respond almost instantly meanwhile this Thread device has a noticeable half to one-second delay before the bulb or plug responds. Its not a dealbreaker but...a bit of a letdown a newer piece of tech is slower than what its replacing. I like the design, its cute, simple and the price is fantastic. Hopefully in time firmware updates can speed up response times.
In terms of setup, this is the third new Matter/Thread IKEA device i've had an issue setting up. Aside my Dirigera hub, there is also a Homepiod in my house which also acts as a thread router. The IKEA ecosystem seems to have problems when theres another router nearby even if the Dirigera is your main hub. I have to always unplug my Homepod if I want to add one of these devices and that's frankly annoying.4
Call for helpStevenMy wife recently had surgery and during her recovery at home this device turned out to be the ideal way to call for help. I set it up in Google home with an automation that allows her to press a button to broadcast a message around our house that I could hear and come to her aid. This wasn't what I planned to use it for originally. But now that I understand how it works with Google home, I'll probably order several more.5
Connection IssuesRyanI purchased two BILRESA switches. The first one connected to my network with no issues. I added it through Google Home (Matter), which then connects it to the Thread Border Router. The second one wouldn't connect until the fifth or sixth attempt. After it finally did, my other Thread devices started having connection issues. I figured I just got a defective unit so I returned it to the store and bought two more. Those two are as bad as the one I returned. I can get them to connect, eventually, but it takes several attempts and they have to be right next to the Thread router. Conversely, I have four MYGGBETT contact switches and two KLIPPBOX water leak sensors, which all work fine. The only time they seem to have issues is when I have a faulty BILRESA switch on the network. The first switch I set up is still working fine, which makes it even more frustrating that the others are so problematic. The only reason I rated them two stars and not just one, is because they're very inexpensive.2
Amazing value, huge potentialChristianI'm more knowledgeable about smart home than invested in it. Have been waiting for a reasonably-priced lineup like the IKEA Matter collection. This switch is my first taste of it, and I'm getting very excited. The switch is solid, simple, and elegant. Paired easily with Apple Home on the first try.5
Great idea and price, failure on implementationWrayIt seems it is pot luck whether you can get it to connect, even with an IKEA hub. I tried SmartThings, Alexa and Home Assistant. I got it to connect in the first two, but it was unreliable in SmartThings and Alexa simply doesn't support it's button functionality. They don't do anything unless you create a flow or routine for them, so they aren't plug and play. Home assistant did not work, and the problem appears in the matter over thread connectivity which fails most of the time. When it gets that far, it fails to connect to Home Assistant as the last step. I think part of the problem is that my eero routers do not have the capability to split the 2.4 Ghz band as a separate band and so many devices only work on 2.4Ghz. Also they (mesh network) are the thread border routers. According to Verge, IKEA knows about the issues but at this point little is known about the root issue. Is it matter, thread connectivity or IKEA's implementation of those standards.2
Good but with as few caveatsJulioIt works fine, it was easy to pair with Apple's Homekit. Since it used 2 AAA batteries, it's a little bulky. The magnet provided is not strong enough, so if you hit the remote it drops - I had to skip the magnet mount solution. Also, another problem with the new entire Matter-compatible line is that you need a tool to open the battery doors. Why? The price is very good, though. I recommend it, bought several to use along with other automation solutions.4
Works with Samsung smarthings over threadGilbertI got this remote because it has matter over thread. I have a Samsung smart fridge with thread, which is my SmartThings hub. I thought it would take me a while to set it up, but nope, as soon as I put the battery in, I got the discovery notification, and it works way better than I expected. No Ikea hub needed.5
Great button - needs thread bridgeHarryI'm really happy with these buttons -- they've been easy to connect and I really appreciate the Matter + thread support so that I can use my existing HomePod mini as a bridge without having to buy Ikea's.5
Great value, works out of the box with Apple HomekitMichaelI bought four switches, all work and I appreciate the magnetic adhesive mount. For the price I have no complaints.5
Home Assistant userJordanTook some time to set up, bit is solid now. Very quick and never has lost connection. I'm loving it.5
No Google Home SupportRichardThe Matter-enabled BILRESA dual-button remote control is not compatible with Google Home.
In attempting “Create an Automation” the button reports “Support coming soon”. How could IKEA fail so miserably in launching a product with no support for Google Home. In addition, the IKEA Home Smart app will not work with Matter devices unless a DIGERA hub is purchased, defeating the whole purpose of being a Matter-enabled device.
However, as a product tester/reviewer, I have an isolated guest room with an Alexa Echo device. I was able to pair the BILRESA and set up Alexa Routines to control my TP-Link TAPO Matter-enabled lightbulbs. Once setup, I was able to turn on, then off, the lightbulbs (one task dedicated to each of the remote buttons) with the switch. In addition, using a second purchased BILRESA, I was able to set up a TP-Link Tapo Smart Power Plug to toggle it on/off with just one of the two buttons on the BILRESA.1
Excellent Button!MichaelI'm using several of these buttons with Home Assistant in different rooms of the house. It took a little while to get up and working (because my router was blocking matter/thread traffic), but once connected to the system it works reliably. Fantastic value.5
Unable to ConnectShashwatUnable to connect the remote to Tradfri Wireless Control. I bought the remote after consulting an employee in the store and she confirmed that it would work with wireless controller.1
Worse than Rodret: Thicker, 2AAA batteries, and Matter complexityScottThe product that this replaces, Rodret, was a nearly perfect Zigbee remote - sleek and reliable - with one big flaw: if you pressed too high or low, it would pop off its magnetic mount.
Bilresa solves that with a better mount design, but takes two MASSIVE steps back: it now requires 2AAA batteries instead of just 1, and it drops support for widely supported Zigbee and instead requires complex and confusing “Matter over Thread”, so now you need yet another new hub. The whole appeal of IKEA’s smart home products was that Zigbee is stable and vendor agnostic, providing an alternative to brands that used WiFi and dropped support for their smart home products leaving customers stuck. IKEA joined all those other brands creating ewaste by switching to Matter for zero customer benefit. This device actually supports Zigbee, but only in an undocumented mode with a special pattern when pairing. Disappointing!3
The best yet!ColinWe've owned all of the IKEA steering devices, and this one feels and looks the most premium by far. It's small, it's responsive, and it was very easy to add to our smart home setup. Each button has press, double-press, and hold functions available to configure. Bonus points for the compact, environmentally friendly packaging.
The only flaw I've found is that, as shipped, these don't sit securely on the knockdown textured walls common in the southwestern US. You may need to replace some of the adhesive on the provided metal plate.5
Setup great a little slow to respondKevanI love the price. It was easy to setup and configure. The button press and response is a little slow. Purchased to use as a light switch in room from guest bed room. Button presses and slowness to respond were confusing my mother while we use using the room. Light did not turn on and she would start pressing multiple buttons and then the light would come on and then go off real quick. She does not use any smart devices but I am used to things taking a little longer to respond and I am more patient.3
Nice Button (But Tech Savviness is Required)JakeThis is a neat gizmo, but I had to fight to get it to work with the various Matter devices I control via SmartThings.
I picked up 8 of these buttons, but I needed a "proper" hub to use them. After some kicking & screaming with competing hubs, I ended up picking up an Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 (I have mixed thoughts on Ikea's Dirigera hub, but there's inadequate room to voice them here), and the buttons mostly paired via "Partner Devices / Matter" without a hitch (outside of needing to retry a couple buttons that didn't want to connect right away). Once I got all my buttons connected with this hub, setting up routines to control various devices in SmartThings was painless.
Few misc. thoughts for the road: The price ($6 as of early '26) is nice. The build quality's solid. I love being able to attach it to any magnetic surface I wish, like a fridge or microwave.
To conclude: this button rocks for SmartThings, but some work & savviness is needed to "utilize" it to its fullest potential.4
Love theseJohnI bought 5 to try out…..like the, so much I’ve bought 20 more to put just about everywhere I wish had a switch. Very reliable and since they use AAA batteries, they’re much cheaper to keep working than switches that use a coin battery.
Easy to pair straight into HomeKit since we already use an Apple TV.5
