Office Desk DrawersNickieThese work really well. No complaints.5
Disappointed!!!RoseannI am a huge IKEA fan but I am so disappointed in this item. The quality is awful. The drawer sides are covered in a plastic material that is delaminating and the underneath particle structure is crumbling. I will be surprised if the drawers last through 6 months of use. If this is the construction method that IKEA is using to meet price, I will no longer be a customer. 2
Alex file cabinetBridgetSuper easy to set up and very sturdy. Love the color, adds a nice pop to my office.5
Great Product!LynnThis cabinet assembles easily, is strong, and well-finished. We now have 2 of them in different sizes! The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars is the the drawers are not full extension, so depending how it’s filled, something may have to be moved to reach what’s in the the back of the drawers.4
Good productMariaVery useful 4

These are great, but to some, there’s a catchRoxanneI really do love these drawers they are so versatile you could use them to attach to a desk you could use them in a craft room. You could use them in your library if you’re a book nerd, like me who likes to write notes and tabs their books. They would be great for kids rooms For organizing their crafts, they could also be great for a craft corner or a school station for those who prefer homeschooling. I’ve even seen someone use them in their garage for holding some smaller items for those who are big on diy projects. However, if you try to take these apart to save on space when moving, you will have a problem. When assembling these drawers, there are these clear plastic screws that need to be hammered into the furniture to hold everything in place. When trying to get them out of the furniture piece for dissembling, they were not only difficult to remove but they also damage the drawers themselves and needed to be replaced entirely and they aren’t cheap. Other than that, great product 3
DrawersKentAll in all good, but the drawer rollers are cheap, and difficult to pull out and in the drawers.4
Great additon to my artRosemarieGreat additon to my art room!!!5
Inserts don't fitMaryThe ALEX drawer unit is fine, but when I ordered, IKEA suggested Kuggis inserts, which certainly seemed like a good idea, so I ordered a couple of those also. But they're too big, they don't fit into the ALEX drawers! I'll go elsewhere for drawer dividers, but it's annoying that IKEA not only doesn't offer dividers that fit, but also recommends dividers that don't fit. Also, once the drawers are screwed to the tracks, they're not removable (unlike kitchen and bathroom cabinet drawers that can be removed and then popped back in). Granted, there's no plumbing behind them, but still.2
Sewing room delight.MargaretPurchased for my sewing room. My BIG BOARD ironing table fits across the two I bought. Drawers provide mega space for my sewing tools, patterns, etc. Makes the room much neater.5
Perfect size and lots of storageBrianI have a glass desk with no drawers. Alex was perfect for storing a lot of items out of site making my work area look more organized.5
love it!Amandaeasy to assemble and the drawers hold more than I thought they would. They slide easy and quietly. very sturdy5

Great itemCraigI purchased two of these to build a sewing center for my wife. The build came out perfect. Plenty of storage and I added heavy duty casters.5
Very FunctionalJoanI love this drawer unit. My printer fits on top and my paper, printer supplies, and some sewing supplies in it.5
fantasticDetauraLove these, and I love the color. 3rd time to purchase, I paired 2 of these with a light-colored butcher block to make a massive desk. Looks great and was very inexpensive.5
Best Buy I've MadeSharleneThe Alex series are the best purchases I've ever made from IKEA. Love the looks and the design but mostly love the quality of the material it is made from. Strong, sturdy and made to last.5
Drawer for desk is goodChristineIt's easy to use, you can use as night stand, or put a board on 2 desk drawers, you can build your own desk.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.
