Too narrowBob C.This unit is too narrow. Hanging folders do not fit into the lower drawer the long way (front to back). They only go in from side to side. This reduces the capacity of the drawer to about 60% of what it could have been if it had been manufactured a few inches wider.

The only complaint I have is that my folders don’t fit in the filing cabinet from front to back, but they do fit well in the other orientation.

Almost perfectTerrence C.Two of these cabinets were purchase to support my custom desk . They are terrific and the price is manageable. This one has an issue with the pre-made holes and hardware on the face panel of the larger file drawer. Ultimately I repaired it, but it was a factory problem.
Exactly what I needed!LISA S.This Alex drawer unit was exactly what I needed for my teacher table at work. I only have a table and no drawers and I know I can depend on IKEA to deliver what I need. These drawers are nice and deep that holds a lot of storage. It was easy to put together as well. Nicely done!
Crafters look elsewhere-Disappointed-not as advertised!Michelle L.Bought for my craft room to hold supplies in drawers and 8.5x11 paper in bottom drawer. Completely failed to meet expectations! 1.Color is NOT white but a dingy cream color. 2. Drawers are not flush when assembled. Experienced craftsman put together and followed the directions. 3. Drawers do not slide easily. They stick. 4. Bottom drawer is hard to open. Drags on carpet. Only 3/4 of the bottom of the drawer is covered instead of a complete bottom board. Wheel placed under the front center of the bottom drawer causing more drag when opening. 5. Bottom drawer does not hold hanging files front to back. Files have to be put in side to side limiting the number of files. 6. Casters sold separately instead of included. 7. In order to return, I have to provide my id which ikea keeps on file, which they don’t need. Because the drawers are open and assembled not sure it can be returned. 8. No phone number for ?? 9. Setup your showroom so buyers can look over every aspect of the product.
Poorly designedKatie B.The file drawer is not wide enough to store files in a traditional way (front to back). You have to use the rod provided to file side to side. There isn’t enough room for 2 rows so half the drawer is wasted space.
Too narrowMargaret B.At 14 1/8” wide I would expect this to be wide enough for normal 11.5” file folders, but it’s not. I’m giving this two stars rather than one because it was easy to build and very sturdy.
This is good but beware.Daniel S.I have this model. I want to point out that this alex drawer open by the base. Meaning if it has carpet or is on carpet, the file drawer can be difficult to use.

File folders don’t fitStacy S.I purposely bought the Alex because of the file drawer. I have an old one I loved but wanted a new color. Regular letter file folders don’t fit. The holes are off and no matter which one you use the don’t fit. Ikea needs to make a new plastic piece with the correct whole and send it to those of us who purchased this. I also don’t like the fact you can’t attach this unit to your desk top. I am so disappointed. I have the Alex that’s all drawers on the other side and there’s no issue attaching it.
Does not fit standard hanging files!BARBARA N.Man I wish I read the reviews!!!!! I promise you this reviews are legit. This cabinet will not fit a standard file, believe when I say do not buy this if you want to hang standard files. I also made the mistake of buying this from the “As Is” section which means I cannot return it! I can’t even begin to explain how angry I am with Ikea! Ikea if you are reading this you need to do the right thing and update your website to list the measurements of what files it will fit!

Perfect timingJillianI have been looking at the Alex cabinet for a while. When the San Diego location started offering their 'AS IS' selections I checked to see what their offerings were and there was an Alex with an open box. I reserved it and picked it up the next day.
It's a great cabinet! It was fairly easy to put together and extremely sturdy.
I plan to purchase a second one soon.
