A simple winter table setting
Look outside for inspiration – and ingredients! – for a seasonal table setting. When Gina in Norway invited us around for her special winter stew, nature gave her a hand with the decoration.

Flexible seating
Gina can fit 12 people at her table, thanks to her mix of seating that includes a bench. ‘I enjoy hosting big get-togethers. Most of the time, we spend the whole evening around the table!’ Benches are great because there’s nearly always room for one more, and you can make them more comfortable by adding cushions.
Decorate with natural materials
Finding decorative things in nature can be fun – fill a vase with pine cones and scatter a few more across the table. Choose plates and bowls with patterns and colors that complement the natural theme. ‘I also collect old beer and water bottles of various heights to stick candles in; candlelight makes the table feel intimate and cozy, and makes the colored glass twinkle!’ Gina adds.
Put down playful place markers
Make an everyday meal feel special by including place markers as part of your table setting to help each guest feel even more welcome – and ensure that everyone sits where you’d like them to! ‘I like to make a name card and fix it to a glass with a clip. These star-shaped ones are very festive,’ says Gina.
I like simplicity. I’ve cut up old fabric to make napkins; it’s easy, and I enjoy reusing things – it’s much less wasteful"
