Don’t be fooled by the lightweight material’s soft exterior. This handmade basket is made of hardwearing and durable bamboo.

The material brings a piece of nature into your home and spreads a calm, warm feeling.

Great to have in the bathroom since the feet at the bottom prevent moisture from the floor being absorbed and damaging the basket.

Bamboo is a traditional, versatile and loved material for functional and beautiful everyday objects. With its warm tone and natural colours, it’s perfect for creating a soft and relaxed feeling at home.

SALUDING is a family of handmade bamboo baskets from Vietnam and Indonesia – woven by artisans who know the material like the back of their hands. With their help, we’ve been able to transform this fast-growing grass into decorative shapes for the contemporary home.

A meeting between form and function

“With the right knowledge and expertise, bamboo can be manoeuvred, bent and folded into amazing objects”, says IKEA designer Nike Karlsson. And since it’s a natural fibre, each product gets small colour variations and a unique expression. “It’s tactile, and the shifts can contribute to warmth in almost any room, an excellent material if you want to bring in a little nature into your home.”

What is bamboo?

Strong, flexible and one of the world's fastest growing plants – bamboo has many uses that make it an excellent renewable material. It’s a type of grass and usually grows without the need for fertilizers or irrigation. After being harvested, it grows new shoots that are ready for harvesting after 4-6 years. At IKEA we use bamboo for items like furniture, bathroom decor, baskets and lamps – and we are constantly exploring more areas of use for this versatile material.
