I was excited about thisAnonymous reviewerI was excited about this Hemlagad pot when I first bought it — it looked great, heated evenly, and seemed like good value. But after only a few uses, part of the sol-gel (ceramic) non-stick coating chipped off. I never used metal utensils or scrubbed it harshly, so it shouldn’t have happened. It seems the coating is quite brittle and can flake from even small impacts. Once the coating peeled, it exposed the metal underneath, which means I can’t safely use it for cooking anymore. It isn’t very pleasant because I expected better durability from a new pot. The appearance and design are nice, but the coating quality seriously lowers its value.1

What is sol-gel ceramic non-stick coating?

Sol-gel non-stick is often called ceramic coating and is an increasingly common replacement for other non-stick coatings in frying pans. It comprises mostly of silica and is created by applying a gel-like solution to the product and drying it in an oven. The result is a hard, glossy surface with non-stick properties. Sol-gel can be produced in different colours, it withstands high heat, is easy to use and clean – and allows cooking with little or no fat.
