More PLATSA system

The storage that changes with you

Life at home is ever-changing - someone moves in, a child is born, you inherit your grandmother's finest vases ... And since space is often limited, it can be a challenge to find a place for everything. With PLATSA storage system, we wanted to create a simple solution that can follow you on all the winding roads of life. Changeable storage that you can rebuild and add to, build vertically or horizontally, to the side or in between. Maybe you'll discover completely new places to store things.

"All you need is your hands," says product developer Freddy Kramer. In front of him lies three parts and in just a few minutes Freddy has clicked them together with a type of plug called a wedge dowel. He puts one frame together after another and an entire wall of PLATSA storage system begins to take shape. "If you're moving, it's as easy to take the frames apart" says Freddy and explains why the detail is important: "People's lives are changing more and more today ─ we move more often, live in smaller spaces and maybe share a home with others at times. That's why our needs don't look the same throughout life." It was precisely this change in how we live, and the lack of space, which launched the entire PLATSA project. Freddy Kramer and his colleagues wanted to find a storage solution that could be adapted to these changing needs ─ and how things actually look at home.

Take apart and rebuild

The idea for PLATSA was frames in different sizes, and Freddy shows how they can be built together: vertically, horizontally and like steps, to then be completed with shelves, wire baskets and doors. "Even the exterior can be used. You can place hooks there or a clothes rail which is fixed between two frames." The goal has been to create a storage system which is long-lasting. Maybe your PLATSA will start its life as a media bench in the living room, to then transform into a wardrobe under the slanting ceiling of the bedroom ─ and then a few years later become the home to all outerwear in your new hallway. Then it's important that you can take apart, add and rebuild quickly and easily without needing a lot of tools. Equally important is quality; that the doors actually withstand being opened several times per day, year after year.

Love in a white box

But how do you succeed in maintaining high quality without the price sky-rocketing? "Right quality in the right place," Freddy says, and opens a cabinet door. "Here on the outside of the door, which you see and touch every day, we've used a matt foil with fine texture, while the inside, which is not as exposed, is coated with a simpler base foil." Even the sliding door is an example of how the team has not compromised on quality. "If it doesn't slide smoothly, it will become a daily irritation", Freddy says, sliding a door to the side. PLATSA is a project that has taken a lot of time and commitment. But it has also given results, says Freddy, taking a step back and squinting a little while looking at the storage combination in front of him. "Those empty white boxes for the frames might not look they're much at first glance, but their actually white boxes filled with love," he says smiling.
