HANTVERK, made by artisans
HANTVERK, meaning handicraft in Swedish, is a collection of handmade baskets, ceramics, textiles, and more, created by skilled artisans in India, Thailand, Jordan, and Romania. Inspired by Scandinavian design, each item tells the story of a successful partnership, great skill, and of life-changing new opportunities.
*HANDVERK collection is not available in Japan.
A total of five social entrepreneurs, whose business ideas are based on creating jobs in regions where they’re most needed and on women’s empowerment, have collaborated with IKEA to make the collection come true. Rangsutra and Industree in India, Doi Tung DP in Thailand, JRF in Jordan, and MBQ in Romania all aim to increase inclusion and equality in the communities where they work. By partnering up with these and many more social businesses, IKEA contributes to a more inclusive world – and by extension to more people getting a chance to shape their everyday life and their homes the way they want and dream of.
The upcoming HANTVERK collection will launch in 14 selected countries this October. Meet three of the sure-handed artisans behind the unique, handcrafted items – Thai ceramist Kiang Aitao, Indian basket weaver Kavitha Nagaraj, and Syrian seamstress Abeer Almnajed – and find out what makes them feel at home.
