Organic food production aims at sustaining farming practices that are better for people and planet.
This product is certified according to Rainforest Alliance's sustainable farming requirements.
Rainforest Alliance Certified stands for more sustainable farming and better opportunities for farmers, their families and our nature. The program enables the farmers to develop better farming methods and working conditions for themselves and create a brighter future for their children. The goal of the Rainforest Alliance is for farmers to grow better crops that generate more income for them, while protecting the environment and securing natural resources.
Chances are you drink coffee on a regular basis. If you’re a Swede, it’s almost certain – Swedes are among the biggest consumers on the planet. So, it comes as no surprise that a Swedish company like IKEA is committed to offering good beans. But good beans are not just about taste. They’re also about quality and sustainability. The trick is to get all of this right. With our PÅTÅR coffees, we believe we have.
All IKEA coffee beans are Rainforest Alliance Certified. “We have chosen to work with the Rainforest Alliance certification because it aligns with the IKEA Code of Conduct, IWAY,” says Henrik Ringdahl, an IKEA product developer who helped create the PÅTÅR coffees. "It takes good care of not only the coffee, but also the growers and workers,” he explains.
The Rainforest Alliance works with farmers to improve growing methods. This helps to lower costs and increase crop quality and yields. Workers earn a living wage and farmers increase their income.
Coffee that’s better for farmers and customers
But the Rainforest Alliance certification is just the beginning. “We also want our beans to be grown in a way that results in healthier soils, less impact on the climate and better livelihoods for coffee farmers,” says Sharla Halvorson, Health & Sustainability Manager at IKEA Food.
Quality beans for a quality taste
Only 100% Arabica beans, the species widely considered as being top notch when it comes to taste, are used in IKEA coffee. Add that to an overall quality improvement of each bean and you get a tastier cup every time.
PÅTÅR is Swedish for a second cup of coffee. Something we hope you and your friends will be happily asking for.
Good coffee for coffee lovers
Swedes are among the biggest coffee drinkers in the world – and the pickiest. After all, “fika” (a break together with coffee and cakes) is a cornerstone of Swedish food culture. That’s why we’re so prudent with our PÅTÅR coffee and the coffee we serve in our stores. It’s Rainforest Alliance Certified, organic and comes from small-scale coffee farmers. We blend the 100% Arabica beans and roast them to be the best coffee we can imagine. Good coffee for true coffee lovers.
