Better sleep for Everyone

If you can’t sleep well there can be many influencing factors. There’s many tips starting from no coffee after 3 or no screen time 1 hour before bed, but maybe it is time to take a closer look at your bed?
We spend 6 to 8 hours every night in our beds without paying too much attention to it.
How do you sleep? Literally!
To understand how to sleep better, let’s start with analyzing how you sleep. If you know your sleep type, it’s easy to find the perfect match of mattress and pillow for you.
-
-
Low
If you prefer sleeping on your stomach, the pillow should be low and soft to ensure that there is no strain on the neck and back.
-
Firm
For stomach sleepers, we recommend a mattress that is not too soft and provides good support for the neck and lower back so that the spine can take on its natural shape.
-
-
-
High
When sleeping on the side, the pillow should be higher to lift your head up and enable your spine to follow a straight line.
-
Medium firm
A softer mattress is more suitable for side sleepers because it conforms to the shoulders and hips while supporting the rest of the body.
-
-
-
High
If you prefer sleeping on your back, the pillow will support your neck while not being to high as to not overstretch your neck muscles.
-
Extra firm
As a back sleeper, a firmer mattress gives you the best support for your neck and lower back.

Why a good mattress equals good sleep
Or why choose a bed over a futon? Futons tend to be very thin and a bit too hard. Even though it is popular to sleep on firm ground, you should consider investing into more comfort.
-
1. Comfortable mattress
There are many types of mattresses, so you can be sure to find a mattress that suits your body shape and sleeping preferences.
-
2. Avoid dust from the floor
You can avoid house dust naturally because your face is 30 cm above the floor where house dust gathers.
-
3. Easy to get up thanks to the height
You can easily get up and out of bed from the sitting position. This is especially beneficial for seniors or people with chronic diseases on the knees or lower back.
-
4. Create extra storage space
If you choose a bed with storage, you can make your room look tidy by storing Duvets that are out of season and other items that you want to hide.
How to choose a mattress?
The most important influencing factors for healthy sleep and thus for the optimal condition of your mattress are your individual body shape, your height, and your weight.
When you lie in your normal sleeping position Ideally, your spine should be straight.
If it's too firm, your body can’t sink in enough to straighten your spine and your shoulder and hips might hurt.
If It’s too soft, your body will sink in too much and your spine will bend.
When you lie in your normal sleeping position Ideally, there will be no gap between the mattress and the body, and the entire body will receive adequate support.
If the mattress is too hard and there is a part where the body doesn’t touch the mattress, the other areas have to carry all the weight, which can lead to pressure points.
Even if there is no space between the mattress and your body, if it is too soft and your body sinks too much, it may not be possible to maintain a straight spine and it may be difficult to roll over, or back pain may occur.

If you and your partner have very different body shapes in terms of height and weight, consider to buy separate mattresses fit for your personal comfort. We offer different firmness in the same range of mattress, so you can use them next to each other without height difference.
Which mattress material should I choose?
Of course different materials have different benefits, but it all breaks down to your personal preference and style of comfort you prefer.

IKEA innerspring mattresses and pocket innerspring mattresses ensure a high-quality standard and guarantee you a good night's sleep. The body weight is optimally distributed on them, which means that your body is better supplied with blood. In addition, the innerspring mattress and pocket innerspring mattresses ensure perfect ventilation and a pleasant climate.

Bonell springs are connected by wires so that they react surface elastic. This means that the pressure is spread over a larger area.
Suspension yields more over the entire surface, which makes the lying feeling softer. The connected springs ensure an even distribution of body weight and a complete exchange of air with every movement.

Many people like how a foam or memory foam mattress hugs the body. Or the way they swallow the movements of a troubled partner. These mattresses are soft, flexible, and distribute your weight evenly for restful sleep and better blood circulation.
Why should I exchange my pillow?
Pillows are a key element for a good night’s sleep. There are some signs, telling you when to exchange your old pillow for a new one.
- If you can find sweat or oil stains that can’t be removed.
- If your non-foam pillow does not spring back in its usual shape when you fold it.
- If you often wake up with neck pain or aching shoulders.
- If you need to fluff up your pillow before you can fall asleep.
- If you wake up with dry and red eyes or even sneezing, which can be a sign of allergies.
- In an average mattress you can find up to 10 million dust mites and studies show that your old pillow is much heavier than a new one because of dead dust mites inside.
A key to healthy sleep is a clean and fresh pillow.
How long should my pillow last?
The lifetime of a pillow depends on the materials that are used and how well the pillow is maintained.
As a rule of thumb, synthetic pillows should last up to two years,
natural pillows can last up to three years and, memory foam pillows up to five years.
A good indicator is to check whether the pillow is regaining its initial shape after squeezing it,
if it does not bounce back to its usual shape, it can be a sign of age.
To extend the lifetime of your pillow, always use a pillow protector.
The extra cover between the pillow and pillowcase will keep your pillow free from stains and sweat.
The protector should be washed every four to eight weeks and the pillowcase every two weeks.

Why you should care about which Duvet you use
Most people invest in a good mattress and think that’s all they need for a good night of sleep. You may have heard that the pillow plays an important rule too for comfort. But did you know that a Duvet is as important as a mattress or a pillow? Even though a Duvet can not influence on ergonomics, it has huge impact on comfort and sleep quality.

Down and feathers that naturally insulate and breathe are light, fluffy and lovely. The more down in the filling, the softer, fluffier and more lightweight is the product. A higher percentage of down increases the product’s price. The more feathers in the filling, the more resilient and heavier is the product. A higher percentage of feathers decreases the price.

Synthetic materials Easy-care fillings that insulate well, a good choice for allergy sufferers as they can be washed often, and at high temperatures. Synthetic Duvets are very long-lasting and durable. We separate our Duvets in two main materials: lyocell and polyester. Polyester is used to create microfiber that feels fluffy and warm while lyocell fibres breathe and absorb moisture.
Not sure what to chose? Down and feather Duvets are very fluffy and warm and especially good at retaining heat in winter. Synthetic Duvets can help you stay cooler as some have added cooling material.
All our Duvets are washing machine washable with 60 degrees. Follow the instruction on how to care for the different material types.

How a Duvet helps to sleep better
Are you feeling cold at night? Are you sweating a lot while you sleep?
Finding the right temperate Duvet can reduce the amount of times you wake up at night, because you feel uncomfortable.
If you feel too warm and sweat a lot, we recommend to use cool or light warm Duvets. If you’re generally cold we recommend to go with light warm or warm Duvets. For really cold winter nights we recommend extra warm Duvets.
An all seasons Duvet is made up of two Duvets: a light warm one and a warm one, which can be combined to make an extra warm one or be used separately.
If you’re too warm and your partner is freezing, consider investing in two separate Duvets, so both of you can have the best sleep possible.

Memory foam responds to your body temperature allowing the material to contour around your head, neck and shoulders. The result is a stable, and strong support material, that allows your spine to fully relax and in turn give you a better nights sleep.
