Make your own monochrome mugs

01 September 2015

Do you love doodling? Mili in Prague transformed her plain mugs with a cool monochrome illustration – based on her pet cats. ‘I like to give them to friends as presents, with funny little messages written on the base,’ she says. Make your own personalised cup, and put a smile on your morning cuppa. #thelittlethings

DIY illustrated mugs on work surface with basket of pens and notepad

Buy some white ceramic mugs or dig out a few plain teacups from the back of the cupboard. Practise drawing the outline of your design on a notepad. When you feel confident, copy it on to your cup using a water-based porcelain paint pen. Simple monochrome illustrations can look really effective, but if you’re feeling adventurous, try adding another colour. Once you’ve finished, follow the instructions on your pen to fix the design. Then you can start using and washing it like any other!
