‘Our festive table shoot is one of the editorial team’s favourites. It’s a chance to let the left and right sides of our brains have fun together and create table settings that are not just inspiring, but also easy to recreate at home. Over time, I’ve realised that what makes the difference is not just thinking about the beauty of the overall table, but also the feeling it might create for those sitting down to share food and time. Here are some of my recent favourites. I love them because you could try everything and have a great time, or you could just take a bit that you like. And as beautiful as they all are, I think there is a gap in each one – that space that’s waiting for you to add your twist and make it your very own. Have a look, get inspired, and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with loved ones at your table as much as you enjoy setting it!’
Pick a theme and go with it
This is the fancy dress of table settings. We went for a ballet theme, but you could draw inspiration from your favourite book, film or song of the year!
Use one colour
For this table we started with glass and built on that. If you’re going to give your table the imapct of one colour, try layering it by using different textures and tones. And candles in the same colour are a great way to add warmth and intimacy.
How nice is it to sit at the table and chat into the night, long after the last bit of food is shared? For this table, we worked with natural materials to bring warmth.
Try a different kind of centrepiece
I love this hanging branch – having it up high means there’s nothing to stop conversation flowing across the table. And you can use it as a natural backdrop – changing what you hang from it to match what’s on the table below... or to mirror the season outside.
