Growing herbs and salads at home isn’t just good for you and the environment – it’s also convenient and affordable! And now you don’t even need any outdoor space to grow fresh, healthy ingredients at home.

Margo’s apartment in Poland doesn’t have a garden or terrace, but she and her son Bruno (9) grow fresh herbs and salad leaves all year round using the new VÄXER and KRYDDA indoor kits. ‘There’s a real sense of pride when he can pick a leaf and know he has grown his own food. Bruno gets involved in every step – from nurturing the first little shoots, to harvesting a homegrown crop,’ says Margo.

Margo’s home may be full of plant life, but it’s also a very organised space with lots of crisp white and clean lines. Luckily the VÄXER nursery uses hydroponic technology – which means growing in water instead of soil – so planting indoors isn’t a messy process. ‘It fits neatly on the worktop so Bruno can reach it easily, and it has its own LED growing light so it doesn’t need to be near the window.’

Whether you’re garnishing a pasta dish with basil, adding peppery rocket to a salad, or stir-frying fresh pak choi, there are 18 different seed bags to choose from. ‘I like making colourful meals, so I love having a variety of fresh leaves growing in the kitchen.’

During the week, Margo likes cooking quick, healthy meals – nothing that takes longer than 30 minutes. ‘We like our food crispy – fresh, baked or fried!’ Having a fresh supply of herbs and salads at home helps her save on time and energy after a busy day.

Bruno loves helping Margo prepare simple salads at the weekend, for long lunches with friends. ‘I like feeding them fresh, healthy food using ingredients that don’t need too much cooking – and there’s always enough for everyone to have seconds.’
