A cosy outdoor space for autumn

05 September 2016

Get your outdoor space ready for autumn. With a few additions, a garden or terrace can still be inviting after summer. Use nature’s colour palette as your inspiration and swap summer brights for warming natural shades. Sara turned the decked area of her garden into a welcoming place to linger over a coffee as the days grow cooler. ‘I like to mix cosiness with natural, rugged elements – weathered wood, stones and muted colours,’ she says.

Layer textiles to create a cosy snug
Use lanterns to make the daylight last longer
Hang lanterns from branches

Pile on the textiles, add layers of lights

Create extra cosiness and warmth so that you can stay out longer. Use small rugs to cover and insulate seating, and keep cushions and throws to hand in a basket. Lanterns will brighten the available light and add to the cosy atmosphere. For maximum impact, place them on the floor, on tables and hung from branches.

A portrait of Sara

‘Winters are long in Sweden, so it’s nice to find ways to be outdoors before it gets too cold. Just a short amount of time outside can be enough to reconnect with nature’
