What payment methods do you accept?

In store you can pay with all major credit and debit cards including: VISA, VISA Electron, MasterCard, American Express, Maestro, Delta, IKEA Gift Card and cash. We do not accept cheques.

How do I make a payment on the website?

When you are ready to proceed to the checkout, follow the steps given so that we can confirm all your details, including payment authorisation. We will then acknowledge your order by email.

Why do we need your card security code?

We ask for the security code from your payment card to prevent the fraudulent use of your account. This is printed on your card but is not embossed or in the magnetic strip, so only the person in possession of the card should know the code.
 
On most cards, the security code equals the last three digits of the number printed on the signature strip.
 
On American Express cards, four digits are required which are printed on the front of the card, above the card number.

How can I be sure that shopping online with IKEA is secure?

IKEA is committed to ensuring that your personal details will be kept safe at all times and has a number of fraud prevention measures in place. You will be asked to provide information to ensure that your card is not being used fraudulently online.

Verified by VISA and Mastercard SecureCode (collectively known as 3D Secure)

These are schemes that have been introduced by card issuers to help in the fight against online fraud and IKEA participates in these schemes along with a growing number of retailers. To verify your transaction you will be asked to enter your 3D Secure password. If you haven't already done so, you will need to register for 'Verified by Visa' and 'Mastercard SecureCode' with your debit/credit card issuer. 
 
You can register either by visiting the card issuer's website directly or simply by placing an online order. You will automatically be referred to your card issuer's website to register during the checkout process. If you encounter problems with registration, please contact your card issuing bank directly. 
 
Once you have registered, whenever you shop online with any retailer that shows the 'Verified by Visa' and 'Mastercard SecureCode' logos, you will have one more step in the shopping process. You will be taken to the debit/credit card issuer’s website to enter your password before you are returned to the checkout to complete the purchase. This ensures that only the person who enters the correct password should be able to shop online using your card.

How safe are my personal details and credit card information?

What if my card is declined?

IKEA will only decline a transaction on the advice of your issuing bank. It may be that you have insufficient funds in your account, that your card has been blocked because of unusual or suspicious activity, or that the details you have provided do not match those held by your issuing bank. In each case, you should contact your card issuer in the first instance to try to resolve the problem or use an alternative payment method.


Why does IKEA only refund to the same payment card?

It is a condition of the card schemes (VISA, Mastercard and Maestro) that all refunds must be processed onto the same card as the original payment was made in order to help reduce fraudulent activity on cards. IKEA must comply fully with all card scheme rules in order to be able to accept these card types.


Data Protection

We are only able to talk to the person who placed the order. If you wish for us to talk to someone else on your behalf regarding your order, for example a family member, then please contact us and we will add their details to your order.


IKEA Home Card

The IKEA Home card was a payment card previously offered by IKEA UK. Existing holders may still use their cards in UK stores. We do not accept payments with IKEA Home Card in Ireland.


Do you offer finance options or interest free credit?

Unfortunately we do not offer any finance or interest free credit options.


When am I entitled to claim a VAT refund and what do I need to do to obtain one?

If you are purchasing goods in an IKEA Store you are entitled to claim a VAT refund when you are either:
• Non EU resident
• Customer registered for VAT in the EU, other than the UK.

Non EU resident:
If you are exporting purchases outside the EU you may be entitled to a VAT refund. If you are shipping the goods as freight please request an IKEA ‘VAT refunds for export outside the EU’ notice. If you are taking the goods with you as on board luggage, you must request a ‘TaxFreeWorldwide’ receipt.

Customers registered for VAT in the EU, other than the UK:
If you are dispatching purchases back to an EU country where you are registered for VAT, please request either an IKEA ‘VAT refunds for overseas businesses elsewhere in the EU’, or for Irish customers, ‘VAT refunds for businesses in the Republic of Ireland’. Please note that refunds can only be made to the persons who originally purchased the goods and cannot be made to any UK residents. The notices will request evidence to qualify for a refund. IKEA must receive all necessary evidence within 3 months of the date of your purchase. If you are purchasing goods online via the IKEA website to be shipped directly abroad, then you may be able to claim back the VAT on the goods (VAT cannot be claimed for the delivery charges). You will receive a VAT receipt after placing your online order. This will be received in a separate email shortly after you receive your order confirmation email.
