In collaboration with Little Sun

Solar power to the people!

Get ready to switch on the sun with SAMMANLÄNKAD LED solar-powered lighting. The two new lamps were brought to life in partnership with Little Sun, an organisation whose work brings solar energy to those who need it most. Here's to making renwewable energy even more accessible to even more people!

A true power couple

“Little Sun is the perfect collaborator this project in the way they bring beauty, art and design into this very technical way of working with solar panels.”

– James Futcher, Creative Leader at IKEA of Sweden

Little Sun's story began just over a decade ago in 2012. It was founded by well-renowned artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen, with the aim to bring clean and affordable light and energy solutions to communities without electricity access. So far their solutions have impacted the lives of 4.6 million people. Combined with IKEA's mission to create a better everyday life for the many people, it's easy to see why joining forces with Little Sun was a natural fit.

To the SAMMANLÄNKAD collection of lamps, IKEA brings almost eight decades of life at home knowledge and home furnishing expertise. Little Sun, on the other hand, comes with significant capability and experience within the realm of solar technology and its implementation into local communities.

The output of this partnership is two lamps that not only harness the power of the sun, but are also designed to meet the needs, dreams and life at home realities of millions of people worldwide.

“It’s only a small nudge that we can deliver, and many nudges are needed," says Felix Hallwachs, Managing Director of Little Sun. "But we are excited to see how much solar energy we can spread in the world.”

Set it down, hang it up or move it around

“I like to think that I’m capturing the
sunlight during the day and then
releasing it at night. In that way, I can
study late with the help of the sun.”

– Jonas, student

A mother reading her children a bedtime story. A student cramming long into the night. Or even a travel-loving, van-living adventurer. It makes sense that different people and homes need light for different places and activities, which is why the SAMMANLÄNKAD solar-powered table lamp was designed with full flexibility in mind.

Turn it from table lamp to pendant lamp with the included eyelet and wire set. Or, detach the light source from the stand for an instant flashlight. With fully charged batteries, the lamp can even boost the battery of a mobile phone.

The design of the lamp isn't only a striking visual reference to planets orbiting around the sun – it also means that the light can be rotated in all directions, wherever needed, with the added benefit of zero cords.

Jonas' SAMMANLÄNKAD table lamp goes from sunny windowsill to workspace in no time at all.

The detachable light source on the SAMMANLÄNKAD table lamp allows fashion designer Sidney to illuminate fabrics and garments as he works.

Bedside lamp, or brightener of bedtime stories? For Marissa and her children, the SAMMANLÄNKAD table lamp is a bit of both.
