The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda
In FY21, the IKEA business reached our sustainable sources goal, meaning that more than 98%* of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled. With our Forest Positive Agenda towards 2030, we're taking the next step.
What does the IKEA Forest Positive Agenda towards 2030 include?
Our agenda towards 2030 focuses on three key areas to further protect and support the world’s forests:
1. Make responsible forest management the norm across the world, going beyond the wood sourced for the IKEA business
- Lead projects and collaborate with others to enhance biodiversity and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole wood supply chain.
- Continue to only use wood from more sustainable sources certified by the most credible, global third-party certification systems.
2. Halt deforestation and reforest degraded landscapes
- IKEA is committed to no deforestation and no forest degradation across our primary deforestation-linked commodities (soy, palm oil, beef, leather, coffee, cocoa, rubber, wood and sugarcane), with a target date of December 31, 2025**. All wood used in IKEA products is sourced from responsibly managed forests which do not contribute to deforestation.
- Invest in forestry and other land use activities to remove and store carbon and support the restoration of degraded land.
3. Drive innovation to use wood in smarter ways
- Continue to drive innovation around our wood use to ensure that all material is used efficiently and that carbon is stored for as long as possible. We will work to design all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.
- Secure that at least one third of the IKEA wood-based range will be made from recycled wood by 2030.
*We consider a goal to be fully reached when we achieve more than 98% fulfilment overall. Due to disruptions or new suppliers/business partners, we cannot guarantee a 100% fulfilment at every given point in time.
**Commodities and products in scope of the European Union Deforestation-free Regulation will have to meet the corresponding timelines.
