IKEA launches the third collection of STOCKHOLM, a new collection of 80 products covering most areas of the home, with a focus on living, dining and sleeping solutions.
The collection is well made through and through with beautiful proportions, great comfort, clever, multiuse functions, and high-quality materials for durability. It is a collection of strong individual pieces that also go very well together.
A key aspect of STOCKHOLM is the materials: natural woods like walnut run through most of the collection, as well as mouth-blown glass, bone china and warm textiles. TheSTOCKHOLM sofa, first launched in 2006, has been updated and now comes in soft, plush velvet, as well as smooth, full-grain leather. Many of these tactile materials just become more dynamic and beautiful with every passing year.
STOCKHOLM is designed with one simple thought in mind: to add a warm and homey feeling through design that embodies both quality and comfort. Organic colour schemes are inspired by nature, like the lush greens and browns of fertile country fields. Organic shapes are paired with straight lines, adding a modern and distinctly Scandinavian touch. The result is both contemporary and classic.
STOCKHOLM easily combines with what you already have at home. It could be other IKEA furniture, old antiques or modern classics. It is a collection that fits our way of living - the pieces work in many different contexts and environments.
“My wish for STOCKHOLM is that people dare to explore new solutions and ways of decorating, breaking with old conventions,” says Ola Wihlborg, the designer for STOCKHOLM. “The bedside table can be used as a sideboard in the living room, while the small chest of drawers fits perfectly in the hallway or bedroom.”
The collection is manufactured, packaged and transported in a way that gives customers the best value for their money, and therefore makes it more accessible than traditional craftsmanship. You could say that STOCKHOLM is quality furnishings with common sense – IKEA also calls it “Smart Craftsmanship”.
At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that STOCKHOLM are meant to be used – every day, and for many generations.
