Doing and Donating
In these strange and worrying times, we want to do whatever we can to help. Our vision is "to create a better everyday life for the many people", and never has that action been more urgently required.
That’s why we’re running a host of initiatives across the country, to help frontline NHS staff and those in need. Because even though we are not doctors or scientists, we think we can all do our bit by
Doing and Donating.
Our Partnership with Red Cross
We have partnered with the British Red Cross as our emergency charity partner and we are supporting them through product donations to the vulnerable individuals, communities and families they look after. We are providing them with packages for different needs - from comfort products such as throws, cushions, bath robes and slippers, to toys and art supplies to help children reduce the stress and the effect of lockdown.
We are also supporting the British Red Cross in their fundraising appeal. These donations will help to raise and distribute funds to support communities made most vulnerable by the coronavirus outbreak.
Caring for local community
Looking after little minds
We worked with Barnardo's to provide 5,000 well-being packs that help keep vulnerable children stimulated and let their imaginations roam free during lockdown.
Caring for care leavers
Together with Barnardo's, we provided 500 young care leavers with ‘Life at Home’ packs, filled with all the everyday items they need to adapt to their new lives during this challenging time.
Stocking up shelves/delicious donations
Following the temporary closure of our restaurants, cafes and bistros, we donated all surplus food to local foodbanks, shelters and hospitals to help fill up the empty shelves and bellies of those in need.
Whilst our stores were closed, the car parks at our Wembley and Gateshead stores were temporarily turned into drive-through NHS testing centres to ensure that our front-line staff could get tested swiftly and safely.
Better rest for the NHS
By providing bedding to Headley Court Hospital, Surrey and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich we helped frontline staff get the best rest possible between shifts.
Caring for our people
Our co-workers are at the heart of everything we do, so we’re doing all we can to make sure they feel looked after during these challenging times.
Recently, IKEA took a global decision to no longer accept any Government support for co-worker pay, and to retrospectively ensure that co-workers who were placed on furlough receive full pay from IKEA for that period.
In the countries where we took Government support, we will also offer to repay and return any amounts received.
IKEA is here for the long-term and we think in generations to come. We are committed to continuing to play a strong role in society, building back stronger from this crisis and continuing to be led by our purpose; to create a new IKEA that is more affordable, accessible and sustainable to the many people.
Everyone has the right to feel safe whilst they work. So we’re doing all we can to protect our hard-working co-workers by constantly reviewing and enhancing measures to ensure their safety.
While our customer support centre is still open, we have provided co-workers with everything they need to work from home. This means we can offer a safe, socially distant and flexible working environment for our co-workers, so while you’re shopping from your sofa, we’re here to help from ours.
To keep co-workers in our warehouses safe, we have introduced enhanced safety measures including temperature checks, deep cleaning routines, additional hand sanitiser facilities and regular training updates to ensure social distancing guidelines and processes are in place.
We would like to thank our co-workers for their dedication and hard work through these unprecedented times.
