Reviews

Really pleased with product onlyVerified ReviewerReally pleased with product only thing I would like is seat to be narrower as can't sit and reach floor but Really pleased4
A terrible purchase.Verified ReviewerI really regret buying this product. So uncomfortable, in both seat and bed configurations. I slept on it for one night and woke up with numbness in my arm and leg. There is a design flaw where the end of the 'foot' of the bed slams down on the floor at the slightest bit of movement. The mattress/mat it comes with is incredibly thin. I really do wish I hadn't bought this, it was such a waste of money and now I can't even get rid of it because nobody will buy it from me second hand. It'll probably just end up being thrown at the tip.1
Chic double sofa bedVerified ReviewerThis sofa bed when built is quite chic. The tubular frame and grey fabric look great. In sofa mode there is plenty space underneath to use as additional storage if required. Great if you want to store bedding or cushions and throws. As a bed it's a good sized double. The sofa cover doubles as the mattress. To be honest the cover could do with extra filler for comfort, both for seating and sleeping. I suppose that is a lacking due to the price point. Which extremely is reasonable for what is a double sofa bed. That's something that maybe a problem if you prefer a softer mattress. Ofcourse you could add a mattress topper to remedy this. Personally l think a deeper fill to the sofa cover/mattress would be an enhancement to overall comfort. The height in seat mode could be an issue as it is somewhat on the lower side. Although extra cushion here too would improve this. That said it is comfortable to sit on though. Great for additional seating and a spare bed too. Easily make it your own with cushion and throws. Easily converted from sofa to bed and not to heavy to move. Once built satisfied with the quality. Instruction for building confusing so take your time and extra pair of hands and eye's a bonus. Great value excellent design and serves it's purpose. Four stars for mattress/cover and confusing instructions.4
Brilliant item, but needs to be described as sofa bed frameVerified ReviewerI was looking for a comfortable, lightweight 2 seat sofa with high back rest for our living room on a very small budget. This was the only one that I found that fitted those requirements. Needs two people to put it together and a lot of cushions, padding ( mattress toppers, rugs, cushions and throws to make it comfortable but I am so pleased with it. I have the spine and neck support that I require when sitting on it, it's still lightweight to move around and I can stretch across it when lounging in front of tv. I must stress though that I have added : x2 double mattress toppers, single duvet, and sheets ready for use as a bed, x4 scatter cushions, x2 sheepskin rugs for the metal arm rests and a thick fleece throw over the lot. I haven't yet used it as a bed but I think there is enough padding to prevent the bar from being a problem. I have arthritis in hands, back and neck problems and the support, easy manoeuvrability of the sofa and lack of difficult to remove sofa cushion covers is so great for me. It did take awhile to arrange all the above covers and cushions etc to suit my varous ailments but it's so comfortable. Fiddly to assemble with arthritis in hands but we did it with some swearing5
Cheap but not at all comfortableVerified ReviewerIt’s really cheap but very uncomfortable. Even at £129 it feels hard to justify paying for it. An airbed is much more comfortable if it’s only needed for occasional use. 2
Comfortable enough Excellent value forVerified ReviewerComfortable enough Excellent value for money5
Amazing Verified ReviewerWhen i first saw this sofa, I thought i was ugly and it looked uncomfortable, but I gave it a chance and bought it, and that was the best decision ever. This sofa may not look the best, but it’s so easy to decorate to make it look so pretty. It easily converts into a bed, however you will have to put some blankets underneath you to make it comfy to sleep on, but once you’ve done that you can have a great sleep on it. The sofa was easy to assemble and it only took one person to make it. One of the best purchases ever.5
Great itemVerified ReviewerThis is great, converts easily and is nice and solid doesn’t feel flimsy.5
Worst night sleep of my lifeVerified ReviewerThe most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. Used as emergency sleeping for my myself and my sister and neither of us could walk the next day (we are in our 20s and healthy). It dips in the middle and the mattress is so thin that the under bar dug into me and caused bruises. We have purchased a mattress topper for tonight (costing as much as the bed) and hoping we can walk tomorrow.. please only purchase if you don’t want to have guests staying frequently.1
Love it!Verified ReviewerA bit fiddly to assemble (did it on my own). One bit I really struggled with. Plenty of YouTube videos showing assembly, which helped. It's strong, durable and surprisingly comfortable. The mattress/cushion (a lovely grey) is removable and washable. The frame is robust and cannot be scratched by my cat. Wish I'd bought it ages ago instead of my old sofa (was put off by reviews saying it was uncomfortable - it really isnt!).5
Single most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept onVerified ReviewerBit of a faff to build, and the mattress supplied is too thin to even be considered a mattress. The metal bars push into your spine if you don't lie in one precise position, and I have taken to sleeping on the floor, as I like being able to walk when I wake up. Not very comfy as a settee either. Perhaps alright in a spare room, as temporary emergency seating, or for relations you don't particularly like to sleep on when they stay over.2
What a surprised!Verified ReviewerThe size of the sofa is just perfect for my living room and I cannot afford something expensive. I was very sceptic because it is the cheapest sofa on market and I am very surprised. It looks nice, it is comfortable to seat (I don't think I will use it as a bed but who knows) and my cat loved it straight away and this is the best sign. 2 negative things: It is really firm and the seating place is very wide but you can always put a lot of cushions. It is very difficult to assembly. Very difficult like all Ikea furniture unfortunately.... Apart from that I like it and recommend.5
Great design, compact and functional!Verified ReviewerGreat design, compact and functional!5
Fantastic purchaseVerified ReviewerThis is perfect for the corner in our snug. It is used as a bed about three times a month but used every day as a sofa. To make it more homely and comfy, I layered lots of throws and I use a double duvet as a throw over, it saves storing it away until it’s needed too. On top of this I have lots of cushions which, all combined with the throws, makes it so comfy. When used as a bed, I open out all of the throws as extra layers on the mattress, again, this makes it incredibly comfortable. I highly recommend this product.5

HAMMARN Sofa-bed, Knisa dark grey/black, 120 cm

The speediest way from sofa to bed

Have you ever had one of those evenings where time just seemed to speed up? Somehow the clock wound forward and you've got to make the decision whether to stay or go home. That’s when sleeping arrangements usually are made and the evening is paused to pump up a mattress, or sort out a sofa. This is one of the moments the HAMMARN sofa bed was designed for. It takes 30 seconds (that's if you do it slowly) to go from sofa to bed, is lightweight and light on the wallet too. The secret: simplicity.

Sandra Johansson and Jonas Hultqvist were part of the development team. "A tight target does wonders for creativity," Sandra says. "To get the cost to where we wanted it, we realized we couldn't rely on what we'd done before, or what else was out there." Most things had to be rethought. "We were inspired by old camping beds as they're so economical in materials and need to be easy to move," Jonas says. "So we asked ourselves, could we build a sofa bed with stretch fabric like a camping bed?"

No compromise on comfort

Camping beds are not always very comfortable, though. "What's often a problem when using stretch material," Jonas says, "is that it can bow in the middle and you end up sleeping on each other rather than next to each other." The solution: easily tightened screws that keep the fabric tension at the right level.

A speedy transition

The next challenge was working out a good way to transition between sofa and bed, while keeping costs low. "We designed a mattress that could fold into 3 parts,” Sandra says. “In sofa mode you sit on two parts and have the third as a backrest. Then when you fold the bed out, you can fold the mattress out in the same way." HAMMARN quickly transforms from sofa to bed and weighs only 26 kilos. It seems sometimes simplicity is the best innovator.
