Perfect flexible shelvingVerified BuyerI purchased five of these square shelving boxes to make a feature along the wall in my bedroom/office. They are a great way to display items all to store books and anything else you need to keep neat tidy and out of the way. Really easy to assemble and put up. Paragraph I especially liked the sheet within the instructions that you use as a template to decide on the position and make the holes for the brackets. Simple genius. I would like to see these made from real wood.5
Attaching to wallJanet 5Tried to use your Ekth runner to hang cubes. Gave up and screwed it into the wall. Instructions not at all clear. Cubes went together easily , lovely look5
Sturdy and simple to buildDave G123This is a great wall box. There are no screws in the body as the panels slot together. They do take some force to sit properly and you need a firm surface beneath. Don’t try it on a thick carpet as you need some downward force and a bouncy carpet doesn’t help. The wall mount is simple enough and the unit clicks into place on the wall mount. There is some horizontal adjustment but I found that once I’d mounted it once, it didn’t want to part company with the wall bracket again. Perhaps I was too gentle but I didn’t want to risk any damage. Fortunately it was horizontal enough first time.5
neat storage solutionlesbNeeded some quick storage and despite the mixed reviews decided on these. Bought 5 and assebled and fixed them to the wall in an hour!, possibly the easiest unit to assemble ever and I have done quite a few over the years. Just a simple 'tap' fixes the joints. Will boy some more. recommended5
Good display modulesJaneJoWe wanted three of the units to break up a white wall. They we quite easy to put together although attaching them to the wall was trickier. We bought two mustard and one grey and they look really good together with a few bits and pieces displayed in them. Overall very happy with the effect.4
BrilliantJustintimeIt would have all 5* except the leveling screws are not useable if you wall mount so make sure the bracket is 100% level !!5
Easy and quick to put upAndrewMcThese are great little units, very quick and easy to assemble and put up. The only reasons I did not give 5 stars for all was that whilst they are easy to assemble, sometimes the corner joint does have a bit of a gap, it's a minor thing. The other reason is that I put 6 of these up, I really wanted two of them to have doors, but for some crazy mysterious reason you cannot buy the doors for them, only the deeper units have them. Really frustrating. But otherwise really pleased!4
Utter rubbishLJenMy daughter just bought a couple of these with her own money for her room, and they are well nigh impossible to put together. Really badly designed. I usually find IKEA things quite cleverly designed, as the objects pull together with funny bolts and screws, and there use of an Allen key, but this needs superhuman strength and rubber mallets and all sorts, none of which I have. The instructions also seem to show some kind of fixture for tbe back of the box, which isn't in the box?!1
Bedroom toys hideoutBonollioLooks fab in my little boys room - filled with toys and books. Easy to mount on the bar, a little tricky to get level but love the finished job4
Really hard to assembleSarah234I bought two of these to go stack, the first one I put together but because the sides were so stiff to put together I couldn't get the last side in 100% so now it is uneven. When I tried to put the second together the joining parts snapped off because I had to push so hard to try and get them to slide together - now it will have to be returned. They are not user friendly, I have bruised my hands trying to get them together and now I have to make an extra trip to exchange the broken one. I wouldn't recommend or buy again.1

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home. Not least when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 80 cm, so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colours and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritise playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colours and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.
