Nice ornament, shame about the time...Verified ReviewerI only bought this as a decoration, after previously buying a pink one also from IKEA. They are glass and the grains flow smoothly. This green one is more sandy looking in grain, whereas the pink hex one i already have is some kind of beads. I just wish IKEA had done them as 3 minute timers and were more exact, so as could actually be used and useful. As these two I have are 90seconds - pink and 9m:30seconds - green. So hardly consistent hence only 3*s.3

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
