  • Solid acacia, Acrylic stain
The best way to extend the life of your wooden outdoor furniture is by cleaning it regularly, not leaving it outdoors unprotected more than necessary and to re-stain it on a regular basis.Clean: With a mild soapy solution. Wipe dry with a clean and dry cloth.Maintenance: To prevent the surface from drying out and cracking and moisture from penetrating into the wood we recommend you to re-stain the furniture on a regular basis, for example once or twice a year.Storing: If possible, store in a cool dry place indoors. If the furniture is stored outside, cover it with a waterproof cover. After a rain or snowfall, wipe off excess water or snow from flat surfaces. Allow air to circulate to avoid condensation.
  • 100% renewable material. (Fittings excluded)We have clear requirements for all the wood we use, including a ban on illegally harvested wood. By 2020, we want all our wood to come from more sustainable sources, defined as certified or recycled.Product is possible to recycle or use for energy recovery, if available in your community.

Good prices table.Vicky2145Solid table. £92 so great value. Self assembly but easy enough to do. Looks good.5
Large table but not robustTracie HHad the table for nearly 2 summers. fiddly to put centre piece together but was great when new but even tho it has been covered up all winters (with ikea cover) it has faded massively, varnish has cracked and to be honest i needs another leg to support the table - the top of the table is no longer flat. some of the wood on the top has dropped. I have also bought this in the drop leaf version and that seems ok so far Have bought the varnish from IKEA and this has made it look like new again but there is still the lack of robustness needed for a table so large Problems with 1 - legs it has got are wobbly, top wood flexing and not keeping straight, needs more legs to support top. varnish seems very 'surface' and just peels off The chairs are good tho but as you need a matching set this may be a problem. This a a well priced product but it wont last - i would not buy this product again and IKEA i see you keep saying you will pass comments onto your product department...? it doesn't look like they are listening...1
Doesn"t last and looks shabbyTravellingMummyWe bought this in May last year with great excitement as you can seat two families all together without feeling cramped, but by the end of the summer a leg had cracked and fallen off, it was bowing in the middle, and flaking and looking shabby, very disappointing and its put us off buying again from Ikea.1
Good for big families and dinner partiesDiLucaI have bought this table over a year ago. It is was easy to assemble. It is rather big and perfect for big families and dinner parties. The downside is buckling in the middle where parasol should go, and we will need to use a central support and possibly another leg to keep it going. We have tried with a bracket, but it doesn't work. For that reason we don't use parasol anymore, but gazebo. It did fade, but I sanded it down and used wood stain and it looks as good as new, if not better!4
Awful.... avoid at all costMaccaJHad this table alittle over a year and as one of the previous reviewers have said its bowed in the middle and the varnish has come off and the slats have warped and cracked.1
Fabulous garden table!Kaybee350The table itself is great - the whole family can sit together and eat or chat with ease, it’s a generous size and the shape works really well - I much prefer it to my old longer table! The downside is that there is no available table cover to protect it from the elements! While there are several different sized waterproof covers for other furniture in the range, there is nothing for this table and I’ve struggled to find a suitable one anywhere else... frustrating, given the fact I’ve paid over £600 for my table and chairs set, you’d expect a fitted cover to be available. Please add one to the range, IKEA!4
Great value and quailtySteven AndrewsVery please with our applaro garden table and chairs,so please that we bought two tables,4 chairs and 4 benches,as we have such a large family. We got large dinning table near Christmas for the house and have some good laughs around it,and wanted to be able to do the same outside,so we have enough space for 12 people when they are pushed together but space for 16 if we need to split them, can’t wait to get the rest of the range.5

Furniture for you and the environment

Wood is a fantastic material: flexible and beautiful, durable and renewable. Ever since IKEA started, we’ve used wood as a raw material. We’re a global company and have a great responsibility to ensure that our production has a positive effect on people and the environment throughout the world. That’s why our goal for 2020 is that all wood which we use is to come from more sustainable sources. With the ÄPPLARÖ series, we’ve already achieved this goal – by finding various new wood species to work with.  Read more
Today we’ve achieved the goal that all the wood which we use for our outdoor furniture comes from more sustainable sources, which means that it is certified or recycled wood. The transition has been a given for us at IKEA, but it has also been a challenge. Much of the wood used for our outdoor furniture comes from Southeast Asia, where it has been difficult to gain a good insight into the entire process from forest and sawmills to the factory. But through close cooperation with suppliers and local authorities, we’ve achieved the result, says Ulf Johansson, who works with wood supply and forestry. "More sustainable forestry requires perseverance and long-term thinking, since profits are not achieved quickly, and many of our growers are small companies with limited resources. But we have been able to support them in this process both financially and in terms of knowledge-sharing", says Ulf.

Tough demands on life outdoors

Outdoor furniture must be durable, and throughout history, teak, which is a very hard wood, has been a popular choice of material. But the availability of teak produced in a more sustainable way is far too small, so to achieve our goal, we started looking for alternative wood types. Ove Lindén is an engineer and was working for IKEA in Malaysia when he discovered acacia's positive qualities in the early 2000s. "At the time it was not used to furniture, but was grown mainly for the paper industry. But when we saw people also made fence posts from acacia, we supposed it was resistant to rotting and durable ‒ and would also suit outdoor furniture. In addition, it has a beautiful colour tone, just like teak", says Ove, and explains how acacia, which grows mainly in Malaysia and Vietnam, is grown on plantations where IKEA can have a good overview of the entire necessary production chain.

A type of wood to trust

Today, we use acacia for, among other things, ÄPPLARÖ, one of our most long-living outdoor furniture series. Over the years, new items have been added, and today ÄPPLARÖ is found in outdoor environments throughout the world. Ove Lindén has a theory of why it has become so long-lived. "It's a timeless and neutral series that suits many surroundings. In addition, over the years we’ve been able to streamline production and thereby keep the price down." The discovery of acacia has made us curious about finding more wood species from sustainable forestry. The journey continues towards higher quality and increased durability ‒ for you who use the furniture, yet also for people and the environment throughout the world where our furniture is manufactured.

Lovable durable acacia

Acacia is a naturally durable and sturdy hardwood for outdoor use because of the high density of its wood fibers. For maximum protection it’s pre-treated with wood stain. By re-staining now and then you can enjoy it for many years.
