Time for bed
‘I’m fascinated by the bed as a kind of primary unit that everybody needs,’ says designer Tom Dixon. We spend more time in contact with our beds than any other piece of furniture, so why not make it do more?’ The designer previously collaborated with IKEA to launch the DELAKTIG seating system which doubled as a sofabed – now they’re focused on the bedroom. Part 2 is a customisable bed frame.
A choice of headboard
The frame is made from 50% recycled aluminium for a cool industrial look, and uses a production method also used in aviation so it’s durable yet lightweight. Choose from two headboards to set the tone for the rest of your room. The black version for a streamlined look, or opt for the rattan to give your bed a warm, earthy feel.
‘The bed is a key piece of furniture in any home – I mean, everyone needs a good night’s sleep. So we decided to make a bed frame that can be personalised’
James Futcher, IKEA creative leader
Style it your way
Just like the first version of DELAKTIG, you can add and swap around accessories to customise the frame in a way that suits your personal idea of comfort and style. Add your choice of queen size mattress, and customise it with the side tables or LED floor lamps, which make ideal reading lights.
Breathe new life into your original
The latest DELAKTIG launch also includes a range of new covers for the original seating modules. The hard-wearing new fabrics are available in dusty pink, soft beige and stone grey, so there’s a shade to suit every décor scheme.
DELAKTIG part 2, the new bed frame series from Tom Dixon and IKEA, is in store from February
